Riverside teacher earns secondary certificate and exams held

Catherine Robinson received a general secondary teaching certificate from the Riverside County Board of Education. The board also administered teachers' examinations to two women and one man who sat the Constitution exam. The number taking the tests grows slowly each year but the board must conduct the quizzes under state law.

Postmaster Emerson and staff awaited the bonds promised for veterans as trains brought the funds to Corona. By 2:20 p m the bonds arrived on the 2:20 train and were distributed to relief recipients, easing anxious veterans who had waited in hopeful anticipation all day.

WPA Road Project Proposed in Riverside District

W. A. McBridge, Federal WPA administrator, presented a $176 000 road improvement plan to the Riverside district. The first supervisorial district would receive oiling grading and graveling work primarily in Norco and La Sierra with additional repairs planned for Alvord Marietta and Elsinore. Zioncheck Makes Surprise Hospital Appearance

Washington reports Rep. Marion A. Zioncheck, the Seattle congressman, appeared in the Gallinger hospital corridor wearing white pajamas to tell his side of the case. Two Corona Boys Die in Crash

An automobile collision near Richfield yesterday afternoon killed two Corona Mexican youths and seriously injured three others. George Becerra died hours after the crash and Lawrence Castro died later. The injured, Frank Gonzales Al Sepulveda and Nereto, were rushed to a hospital. A truck struck their car, rolled it over several times, and fled the scene. No driver identity was found.

Dunkers Secret Trip Planned by Corona Club

Harry S. Payne will direct a secret program for the Corona Dunkers with Keneres trucks leaving Alpha Bets at 9 oclock. The Dunkers band will ride in state for a destination with a full program aboard. Last summer the highlight was the christening of the plunge at Zeddie Peabody rancho with ceremonies.

Forest Service Seeks County Grant for Fire Prevention

Guerdon Telis, supervisor of the Weveland National Forest, asked the county board for a $4,500 grant to aid fire prevention. He noted last year Riverside budgeted $1,500 but was unused due to nine COC camps. this year only two crews remain, requiring funds for regular staff. The board approved a $1,000 request.

Beast Rampage at San Francisco Zoo Leaves Keeper Dead

A massive elephant attacked keeper Brown in the paddock as zoo staff attempted to calm the enraged animal. The elephant Wally gored, trampled, and tore Brown’s body, then wrested the remains with its trunk. Keepers prepared tear bombs to subdue the herd after the tragedy.
