Corona residents hail Sheriff Carl Rayburn for appointing F. F. Labrum as deputy sheriff. The note also remarks on Corona School’s educator departure and other local curiosities from the era, including penny-antic anecdotes and editorials.

Corona post of the American Legion outlines a community Fourth of July celebration in the city park starting at 2 30 p m with events including a tug of war horseshoe contest aquatic events and a shell band concert. Activities also feature a baseball game a greased pig contest and a fireworks display concluding the patriotic day with the slogan Spend the Fourth in Corona.
Plans for a six week summer session at Corona High School begin next Monday with morning classes from 8 15 to 12 00. Instructors are Mrs Hazel Hyatt and Charles A Vaile. About twenty students are enrolled and more are expected. Courses include English bookkeeping history algebra science and Latin for freshmen to second year students. It is Corona schools first summer session and officials are hopeful.

Mrs. M. H. Bert of 924 Park avenue received Monday notice of her brother M. D. Karper's death in Tacoma Washington. The elderly man, about seventy five, had been in poor health for several years and the sister could not attend the funeral services.
Corona chamber of commerce plans to name Miss Corona a city youth who will join the court of honor for The First Californians portion of the Ontario pageant and fiesta on June 25 and 26. Miss Peggy Hamilton of Los Angeles will preside as hostess and bride, with John Steven McGroarity as official host.

Riverside residents report John Gardiner a sixty year old Santa Monica man used a garden hose to channel carbon monoxide into his locked car on his ranch eleven miles southwest of Riverside. Coroner says death occurred about an hour before discovery with no inquest planned. Gardiner held property in Australia Mohave desert and Riverside County. A note pinned to a barn door offered work instructions, not motives.
Regular Corona city council session set for seven oclock at the council chamber. City managers expect routine business and no special items on the agenda as aldermanic circles anticipate standard city affairs being discussed.
Manuel Sepulveda of Alderhill was fined 100 dollars after pleading guilty to reckless driving at arraignment before Judge C. D. McNeil in the city police court. Also arraigned were Jesus Torres Corona and Louis Ruis, each fined 25 dollars for intoxication. Frank Bravo and Louis Bega, Alderhill residents, charged with drunkenness, await hearings. All arrests dated Sunday.
William D. Hayes of Anaheim was arrested Saturday by Deputy Sheriff Roger Knowlton of Riverside and held at the county jail for a preliminary hearing before Justice Hows of Corona. Hayes also was arrested in Santa Ana on alleged transportation of intoxicating liquor after taking more than five gallons of whiskey from his automobile.
