HAS EXPLANATION DOWNERS GROVE ILL UPI Tom MacLelan told police Thursday he lost control of his car after saying I slide off my air cushion in an automobile accident.
David Northridge of Far West Financial denies definite plans for the 542 acre De Pipkin tract sold for about 34 million. Ray Watt will develop, with housing the initial idea. annexation to Corona is possible but not decided, depends on factors including sewer capacity.

Corona Senior High School celebrated 266 graduates in a ceremony at the new High School Stadium before about 2,300 attendees. The event featured music by the Panther Band, a valedictory by John Allen, salutations, and diplomas presented by district officials, followed by songs and a Disneyland sendoff for graduates and parents.
The Atomic Energy Commission and Defense Department announced a series of high altitude nuclear tests over Johnson Island to occur between 1 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday Hawaii time. The first shot, in the megaton range, would release the energy of about 1 million tons of TNT.
Two Corona officers stopped three youths in a 1953 coupe near the Maple Street bridge and discovered tools and a typewriter linked to a burglary at W. M. Construction Co. in Riverside. Inglewood residents Jan M. Riemer 18 and William C. Swiney 20 were booked on burglary charges after construction office break in. Riverside County Sheriff's Office took custody.

Mack Ray Allen 44 unemployed house painter remained jailed on a vagrancy charge in San Bernardino. He told authorities he killed a man who helped him hitch a ride from Boston after the Brinks robbery and dumped the body in a Wyoming ravine near Three Forks. Sheriff Obgurn said he will fly to Wyoming to question him with county officials.
A 14 year old farm boy Larry Hawkins dressed neatly stole his father’s pistol and robbed the town bank of 8245 dollars. He fled in a stolen car but was captured seven hours later by a sheriff’s posse as he tried to sneak home. He told police he wanted the money to go to California.
A ruptured natural gas main burst into flames in Idaho Falls injuring five men and killing safety inspector W. G. Brinkley, 45, of Boise. Another worker, Tom Aranda, 34, from Idaho Falls, survived with burns after helping with tools.
The U S Army called out its entire Berlin garrison at 3 30 a m and sent about 6000 troops with armor and artillery to alert stations across the American sector in a four hour combat readiness exercise. Units moved while others remained in barracks in reserve. The spokesman did not reveal how many of the 6000 troops were actively participating.
