Corona youths staged a Fiesta Week parade from Tenth and Main to the carnival grounds on Fourth Street. Three girls dressed as Indians won the sweepstakes prize in the horse section, with other winners named for best horseman best bicycle and best decorated motor vehicle. Honorable mentions went to several horsemen and a jeep entry. The event, in aid of the youth canteen building fund, featured music and new fire department uniforms and was praised as a standout in recent years.
Rev. Donald Brown, former pastor of Corona First Baptist, will serve as visiting pastor at Corona church Sunday. He will preach at both morning and evening services and speak to the Baptist Youth Fellowship at 6 30 p m. Brown led Corona from 1940 to 1943 before moving to Cochran Avenue Baptist in Los Angeles where he now pastors. He will temporarily relieve Rev Charles French while the Long Beach First Baptist leader preaches at his former church.
After a 39 month absence Corona residents greet Staff Sgt George Prentiss, son of Mrs Flabell Prentiss, upon return for a 21 day fur lough. Prentiss trained as a radio technician at Scott Field Illinois after enlisting at March Field and served in North Africa Sicily Italy and England before reporting to North Carolina for reassignment. Grapefruit production in the United States is half that of oranges.
A wartime appeal urges residents to buy extra war bonds beyond basic needs to influence Japan’s fate. The message mocks Koiso and Tojo, pledging pride in European successes while stressing bond quotas as decisive.

Tech Sergeant Richard Hanna son of Mr and Mrs James Hanna of Temescal Avenue Norco has been a prisoner in Germany since 1942. He has been recently returned to U S military control and will likely receive a furlough before re assignment. For three years his parents have heard little, only one card, despite other Corona area servicemen in the same camp reporting he was with them.
The Lions club viewed "December 7" showing Navy photographs of Pearl Harbor damage. A Seventh War Loan trailer followed with a flag day talk by G. K. Price on Revolutionary War flags and the 1777 flag act. Attendance awards were given to Monte Nutter, Dr. W. A. Haskins, and Lester Houck.
City Planning Commission met at city hall with Elvin I Downs presiding. Eula McDougal seeks permission to convert a Ramona street home into a duplex. zoning map revision planned for June 28. Richard Manley urged proper zoning and subdivision, beautification, and remodeling by large businesses.
The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans urge careful review of hospital conditions. President Truman selects General Omar M. Bradley to head the Veterans Administration, seen as expedient and wise to restore confidence and serve returning service members.
