Corona prepares a three day War Savings Stamp drive starting Monday to raise ten thousand dollars for the Kaiser war effort. Eighteen captains will cover every district, urging citizens to pledge daily investments of five to fifty cents and sign pledge cards, with Anaheim postmaster J. F. Alborn stressing sacrifice and future return on government securities.
Government via Red Cross seeks 25 000 nurses nationwide urgent call urges registered nurses or graduates to submit names and addresses to local Red Cross offices for enrollment and possible service at home or abroad. Additional volunteers with basic hygiene or hospital training may enroll as nurse aides.
In Orange Connecticut pupils celebrated Potato Week with nature study lessons and posters. The superintendent reports 1500 potato pledges signed and bread savings totaling 17 937 slices or about 57 loaves in one week.
The 1008 administration in Michigan credits Roy E. Carver of the medical department with commenting on food conditions in France. He notes civilians buy with food cards, soldiers cannot buy freely, and they must eat in camp. he urges saving, recalls good rations, and praises war bread and coffee sugar while living high.
Public appeals urge American boys to secure future by buying War Savings Stamps. Officials note stamps earn interest on Sundays and holidays, framing purchase as patriotic support for the nation’s war effort.

The plan, approved by the President and California Governor, aims for every person to own at least 20 dollars in stamps during 1918 with community allotments calculated by population.

C W Harris and Corona Hardware have arranged attractive window displays to promote War Savings Stamps. Downtown visitors this evening are urged to see the efforts, with many other Corona businesses planning to dress their windows for Monday morning showing.

Mrs. Dodge depicts “The Yellow Dog” as a whining native who attacks government policy and funds. He advocates boy led vigilance via “Boy Detectives of America” to suppress dissent. Dodge urges local leaders to mobilize youths to expose alleged anti war voices and pass out propaganda cards.
The United States Junior Naval Reserve in New York City will plant two war gardens in front of its West Fifty seventh Street armory. The landowner granted two plots for the project and work began on May 13. The gardens are expected to hold significant monetary value, more than any other in the country.
