Essay Awards At Kimbell School For Flag Day

A Flag Day ceremony at Kimbell School honored American Legion Essay winners. About 550 pupils gathered on the lawn as color guards in uniform presented the colors. Donna Alcorn won first in the Legion Auxiliary contest and third district elementary honors. Jeannette Kubica earned second place and led girls with honored mention for Lynda Peterson. Richard Parker led boys, with Ray Alva and Sylvan Orozo receiving honorable mentions.

Quarter-Midget Racing Approved By Commission

Corona Recreation Commission unanimously approved quarter-midget racing for Corona. Racing association representatives Corky Davis Johnny Ezel Buck Southard Joe Hale and J E Miller sought a Corona racing commission similar to Hemet Upland Southgate Lancaster San Bernardino and Norwalk. John Figeira moved the measure. Lynn Lillibrige seconded. Chairman A J Velthoen presided. other attendees included Lillibrige Figeira Mrs Bernice Rothrock Doyle Olesen and city manager Ralph Pfiffner.

Jurupa Court Judge Hears Local Traffic Case

John M. Ragsdale Sr. was found guilty of making an improper left turn on Highway 91 east of Corona leading to a collision with Theda Mae Gosser. Judge May G. Stobbs presided after W. S. Cauill disqualified himself. Ragsdale fined 25 dollars plus 2 assessment. no injuries reported.

Light drizzles fell in the Los Angeles area this morning with a forecast of clearing skies and sunny afternoons.
