A digest of Riverside area items reports a man jailed in a ship dynamiting probe attempted suicide in a Los Angeles substation, a Riverside County fatal crash near Rubidoux bridge, a weather forecast request for upper Santa Ana watershed, and final Riverside County teacher examinations with 34 applicants. It notes Mission Inn’s 65th anniversary, a negligent homicide verdict in a desert crash, and military air base expansion talks near Lake Elsinore along with relief donations.
Preliminary 1940 census data place Corona at 8696 residents, up 28.9 percent from 7018 in 1930, as Lon V. Seiglar reports. Riverside city totals reach 34467, Beaumont up 67 percent to 2248, and other local gains listed. final counts pending.
A committee meeting in September discussed concentrating public Forum meetings into a shorter period. Plans for October to November include two speakers per month on education, followed by two on international relations in February and two in March. A special June 27 session will address reorganization and officer elections.

Edward DeGeorge of 311 Belle street sustained a slight back injury in a collision at Sunnyside drive and Palm avenue Riverside about 6 20 p m Thursday. His car collided with a Riverside vehicle driven by Donald P Lloyd who was uninjured. Both cars were damaged considerably.
Ranger E. A. Grant of the Trabuco district Cleveland National Forest returns from San Francisco where he attended conferences in regional United States Forest Service offices. He had been on assignment to Supervisor Norman J. Farrell in San Diego during winter and spring and will resume charge of the local ranger duties.
The board of trustees accepted the resignations of two city school teachers Edith I Brown and Eula Neary and announced a transfer of C A Vaile to Colorado Springs in exchange for William H Steel. The resignations stem from long service and nearing marriage with contracts offered to Crump and Sheesley.
Sacramento. Governor Culbert Olson forms a 50 member state defense council to coordinate state and national activities. Maj. J. O. Donovan named coordinator between the council and the governor. Ex-officio members include the governor and key state officials. The group spans military industry transportation banking press agriculture labor education and other sectors.
The United States response to French Premier Reynaud's plea for aid is that all possible steps short of war are being taken. Congress and administration officials weigh credit, arming Europe, and selling more planes under trade in policy. Debate continues on resuming sales of army and navy aircraft and other equipment to allies, with a stalled Senate vote on such resolutions. The army and navy surplus list is being revised to include more needed gear.

It notes Italian bombers damaged French air base Fayence and ports Aden Port Sudan while destroying several tanks. Allied attacks on Libyan frontier posts were repulsed and Ethiopian border crossings near Moyale failed.
Jack H Forehand found his West Sixth street cafe burglarized on return from a fishing trip. A quantity of candy bars were taken from the ice box after entry through a rear window. Local police and sheriff's officers are investigating.
Mrs. C. W. Field chair of Corona Red Cross announces the Red Cross office in City Hall will be open every Monday from 8 30 to 11 a m. She will be present in the office during those hours for inquiries and assistance.
Tours reports Paris abandoned as German forces reach the city marking the first world capital fall since 1871. The French government relocates from Tours to Bordeaux amid a crisis as Paris is entered and the war continues under retreating high command. Berlin signals main body reached Paris early today.
Berlin reports a frontal attack on the Maginot Line from the Saar front after Montmedy fell and German forces entered Paris and Le Havre. High command boasts of French retreat on the Paris front while claiming multiple German victories including Paris entry and Le Havre capture.
National Flag Day activities wrap up across the country and abroad with Paris. Dr Frank A Silva Jr and his band perform a late afternoon concert at Main and Sixth featuring America The National Emblem March America the Beautiful and The Star Spangled Banner. The program also includes talks at the Rotary Club by Mrs H L C Whitcomb and at the Methodist church council by Miss Bernice Cadger.
Turkish press questioned Mussolini assurances that regional gulf and eastern Mediterranean neighbors would stay out of conflict. Berlin sources doubted a separate peace with France as German troops reportedly moved into Paris. A British convoy crossing to France with substantial war materiel and a Spanish move to police Tangier’s international zone also featured in early war bulletins.
