Corona residents express mixed views on urban renewal. Opinions cite parking, local spending, tax costs, and potential disruption to free enterprise as reasons for and against redevelopment. Some call for keeping money local while others favor attracting tenants to new center locations.
More than 320 students became alumni of Corona Senior High School tonight as diplomas were awarded by School Board President Margaret Verity and Board Secretary Dr. William H. K. Herron. The ceremony was solemn with nervous graduates and quiet spectators and ended with plans for a Disneyland graduation party. Valedictorian John Wiles urged graduates to aim high and pursue success in a challenging world.

Police investigate a mugging at a West Sixth Street bar about 1 30 this morning. The victim D B Duncan of 2845 Valley View Norco suffered cuts and bruises after a man invited him to discuss a problem and struck him with a lug wrench from his car.
A West Fifth Street woman defeated an attempted assault by screaming after an unidentified man grabbed her and forced silence. He fled through a sliding patio door as she watched for about ten minutes from a dark living room. Her husband woke to the commotion. nothing was taken.
Police chase West Sixth Street incident where three well fed teens left a restaurant by a two by four foot restroom window after consuming about ten dollars worth of food including seven hamburgers eggs sandwiches and pie. A waitress reported the incident and officers are seeking the trio.
Police said an ammunition dump explosion in Santo Domingo killed at least four and injured about 440 people. The blast caused widespread damage and panic among residents near the site.
Gov. William W. Scranton of Pennsylvania declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination at the Maryland state convention. He challenged Goldwater, urged a convention in San Francisco rather than a coronation, and warned against surrendering party dignity while acknowledging an uphill battle.
J F Goss, district commercial manager, calls the California Public Utilities Commission action a serious blow to California business climate. The order cuts the basic one party monthly home rate by 45 cents and follows a petition to raise rates for a $63.5 million income gain.
The State Supreme Court moved a Corona Unified Hospital District petition to the District Court of Appeals. The petition seeks to halt a Riverside County suit brought by Dr. Richard W. Mangan challenging the district lease with the Corona Unified Hospital District Leasing Co. and seeking to stop tax levies tied to the agreement. Delays could be fatal to the district’s position.
Riverside attorney Alexander B. Yakutis said he will oppose a petition for a writ of prohibition filed with the State Supreme Court by the Corona district. He noted the case raises both law and facts and may involve due process in taxation. The district argues the suit is delay tactics and seeks high court action for final, swift resolution.
