Riverside Supervisors vow to bar fifth column in county

Riverside supervisors approved a unanimous resolution to safeguard local self-government against fifth column influence. The measure, prompted by the Associated Farmers of Riverside County, commits the board to remain vigilant against subversive activities in public service and to protect the state and county from such influences. The session also moved to consolidate a public utilities franchise with Southern California Edison and ordered a notice of sale.

BMA Considers Yuletide Plans in Corona

Directors of the Corona Business Men association met at Hotel Kinney to discuss Christmas tree lighting, a 1940 Yuletide children's program, and the addition of mothers and housewives in planning. They referred a locking device for globe decorations to the street committee and talked of sidewalk tree bases for 48 lampposts. A mid summer trade event was tentatively planned with Russell Bartine coordinating.

Red Cross Issues Sewing Supplies for War Aid

New sewing materials including yarn outing flannel and dress fabrics are prepared for Corona quota work. Branch chairmen Mrs. C W Field and Mrs C G Mardorf announced after yesterday county meeting in Riverside. Volunteers will be called to help produce garments for the Corona effort.
