Abraham credits grassroots effort after leading late with absentee votes and broad Riverside district support. He surged ahead as Arlington results posted but Corona ballots later trimmed his lead. Calvert carried Riverside low with 1,032 to 7,504 for Abraham. Lake Elsinore totals 632 to 404 in his favor. Johnson and Skinner trailed in Corona and unincorporated areas with smaller tallies.

Deissler Wins Riverside County Superior Court Seat
Judge Ronald T. Deissler defeated Byron Morton for the Riverside County Superior Court bench. Deissler won 75,168 votes to Morton’s 53,959 with 72.9 percent turnout. Morton carried Corona with 3,535 to Deissler’s 3,496. Deissler won all but two inland cities, and takes the bench in January.

In Riverside County yesterday Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. and former Gov. Ronald Reagan led their parties with heavy margins. Brown secured 42,499 Democratic votes while Carter drew 20,868. Reagan had 46,011 Republican votes to Ford’s 18,931. In the U S Senate race Finch led Hayakawa 22,131 to 19,193, with Bell third at 15,358. Across districts Brown Jr. ran unopposed in the 36th, Ingalls and Harris unopposed in their Assembly seats, and voters weighed on a slate of bond propositions and taxes with mixed results.
