Irene Ebert of Mira Loma and Alba Halsted of Norco voice fears about racing danger. Ebert says racing machines are getting too fast for men to control them. Halsted notes drivers risk their lives and cites her husband as a race driver.
Mrs Stella McCorkell of 928 Beverly asserts racing is a sport and should not be abolished for participants. She says it provides a living and that people should be free to race if they want to in a free country.

In Tuscaloosa police used tear gas at First African Baptist Church as demonstrators smashed windows and hurled rocks at officers. A white officer and more than 30 Black protesters were injured. About 32 Black demonstrators sought treatment after mass crowds dispersed into downtown streets. Protesters demanded desegregation of public facilities, better job access for Black residents, and mediation of grievances.
British publisher Lord Beaverbrook, born Max Aitken in Canada, died at his Surrey home 15 days after his 85th birthday. Former Daily Express head, he joked profits could rise if he “could get rid of me” as colleagues mourned the last of the press lords.
The Corona Chapter of American Field Service confirms Fatimah br Abu Bakar from Pekan Pahang Malaya will join Corona Senior High as a senior this fall. She will live with the Wolfe family at 327 W Hacienda Dr and arrives July 27 in San Francisco for orientation before moving to Corona.
Kansas City UPI reports a District Court jury found George Gessner, 28, guilty of giving U.S. nuclear weapons secrets to the Russians. The first Atomic Energy Act trial recommended life imprisonment for the former Army private, who showed no emotion as verdict was read.
The Justice Department said it would decide in a month whether to continue its bid to register the Communist party under the 1950 Internal Security Act. The Supreme Court rejected the department’s plea to review the case after the U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the conviction for failure to register.
