Polio claimed the life of Jacqueline M. Clark 35 of Norco after ten days of illness. Her husband Donald Clark survives with two daughters Gayle Ann and Donna Rae both six. Funeral services set for 3 p.m. at Bell-Thomas Mortuary with burial in Cleveland after air forwarding.
In a nationwide Civil Defense exercise on June 15 Corona joins 57 U S cities to simulate handling refugees from a Los Angeles attack. The plan projects 400000 evacuees, 30000 remaining by day one, with needs for shelter food clothing medical aid and burial services.
The George L. Liebig residence at Grand Boulevard and West Sixth, a landmark for over 50 years, is being demolished to clear land likely for business use. The one and a half story California home, built in the early 1900s, stood amid a citrus grove and cypress trees with kerosene lighting before modern upgrades. Mrs. Liebig, 84, died in January from burns after a candle accident. her husband, a former Corona constable, survives. Their son George Liebig Jr. and family live in Riverside. no definite plan for the Liebig family property has been announced.

Three year old John Ray Ezell escaped serious injury after a car rolled onto his leg and then across the street into the Claude Blackman home at 868 Via Bernardo. Marjorie Lussier eighteen employed at Rogers Rush Glass Company was taken to Corona Hospital by ambulance after collapsing in front of Schwartz Furniture on Sixth street. The incident occurred at 11 20 am while she was en route to the bank on company business. Brown and Grimes made the emergency call and her step father Don Rogers accompanied her to the hospital.

A Corona school bus carrying 35 children was halted at a traffic light on East Sixth Street when a hay truck rear-ended from behind. Driver Henry B. Koster swerved to straddle the white line and stopped between the car of Elmer F. Bates Jr. and the bus. Only the bus rear signal arm bent and the car’s right fender damaged. no injuries reported. The bus operator was Frank E. Bartlett. The children remained calm as they were en route from Home Gardens to Corona Union High School.
Los Angeles City Council referred councilman Robert Wilkinson’s proposed cigarette tax to the revenue and taxation committee for study. Wilkinson claims the measure would raise four and a half million dollars for municipal revenues annually.
San Diego Superior Judge John A Hewicker ruled that searches of autos leaving the United States for Mexico by the county sheriff are illegal. He cited a state supreme court decision and dismissed a narcotics case against Paul Edson Gale of Los Angeles after heroin was found in his car at the border. He said authorities cannot probe contents of outbound vehicles except possible arms smuggling cases.
James O'Farrel, an boxing instructor, lies in critical condition after 17-year-old Jose Vargas known as Chico Mambo entered a New York gym during a boxing class and stabbed him in the back as O'Farrell attempted to remove him from the premises. Vargas, expelled from school as incorrigible, allegedly carried a knife and declared he was provoked by being pushed out.
