Girl Scout rally and camp plans announced

The council sponsors a June 15 rally at the city park for all Scout age girls. Each attendee brings lunch with dessert provided. After lunch a swim and songfest follow, then unit divisions for Brownies and other grades. Mrs. O K Burman leads the camp with committee members listed and many volunteers named.

Baptist Youth Party at Norco Hints Social Evening

A Norco Baptist church youth gathering hosted Emma Jean Acker and Karlene Winters. The dinner featured fried chicken, potatoes, salad, beans, relis, milk, and cherry ice cream. Games were played on the lawn then everyone sang by the piano. About 30 high school students and five navy boys attended.

Toastmasters Giuw to Hold Last Regular Meeting of Year

The Toastmasters Giuw will meet at the high school on Wednesday evening for its final regular session of the year. Mrs. Mae Buchanan 18 will prepare a special dinner for members and guests. Floyd Andrus acts as Toastmaster and Gale is table topic chairman. Gale plans to present What Were You Like in Your Teen Age. The club will decide at the meeting how and where summer meetings are held.

The Auxiliary to W. H. Jameson Jr. Post 216 meets at Mrs. W O Kershner's home to discuss summer plans and a general youth activities discussion. President Mrs C H Baker will preside and urge turning in all chairmen's procedure books.

Congregational Women Plan Wednesday Meeting and Red Cross

The Auxiliary of the First Congregational Church will hold its monthly meeting in the church parlor at 2 PM with Mrs. James Carlson presiding and a short program. Members will meet in the morning for Red Cross sewing and a luncheon will follow at noon, hosted by Mrs. H. W. Hall and committee.

Birth and family notices in Corona area report

A newborn son was born at Arlington hospital on Monday to Mr and Mrs Juan Luna of 9 Washburn Street. Mrs Edwin R Brimberry and infant son moved from Riverside Community Hospital to 206 East Kendall Street by Hoover and Bell ambulance. Garland Toefd is seriously ill at Riverside Community Hospital. Mr Todd, brother of Mrs Albert Keast, has lived with the Keasts and served as a Cal Aero dispatcher for over four years. Mrs Mary Tucker visits her daughter Mrs Hésie Slaten who is recovering from surgery at Redlands Community Hospital.

County Eyes Leasing 106 Acres For Indio Land

A Federal Works Agency letter notes a proposal to improve Etiwanda Avenue from Mission Boulevard to Valley Boulevard. The project would serve the Mira Loma Quartermaster depot as an access road. Stamp validity and deadlines for wartime OPA ration items

The notice lists expiration dates for red stamp meat and dairy items, blue stamps for canned and frozen goods, and other ration categories. Nathan C Green Former Corona Custodian Dies at 69

Nathan Clair Green 69 died at his Elsinore home last Thursday. Funeral services were held this afternoon with burial in Elsinore Valley Cemetery. A native of Legrane Indiana he moved to Corona 32 years ago and served as Lincoln school custodian. Survived by wife Minnie L Green two sons Charles of Elsinore George of Marysville two daughters Hattie Berkey of San Diego Meda Juvenal of Portland five grandchildren.

500 Letters Ask Denial of Extradition

In Inglewood, more than 500 letters from businessmen bankers neighbors and friends of James J Taylor an Indiana state prison escapee living in California were sent to Governor Earl Warren urging denial of any request to extradite Taylor to Indiana. Taylor a life sentence for killing his stepbrother arrived in California in 1919 under the name Charles A Proctor and later became a contractor. Police said Indiana officials plan to send an officer to return him.

Marshall Returns From Overseas Trip With Churchill

General George C. Marshall, chief of staff, came back from overseas with Prime Minister Winston Churchill after conferences with Allied leaders in North Africa. Observers foresee Marshall as a leading candidate for a European command when the invasion begins. Also noted, U.S. citrus production breakdown shows 62 percent oranges, 29 percent grapefruit, and nine percent lemons.

Military authorities issued a warning against writing or compiling letters and newsletters to service members. They say composite replies from soldiers could become anthologies and pose a real hazard to security.
