Voters in Corona-Norco face two school related measures tomorrow. Proposition A seeks a 15.6 million bond for district needs including a new junior high on Kellogg Avenue. School Superintendent Charles Terrell Jr. says building options vary by cost and voters will decide the method used.
The Riverside County Election Department predicts 72 to 75 percent turnout as 11 000 absentee ballots are returned. Voters will decide in Corona Norco on a county supervisor race for district one and a non partisan Superior Court judge seat, plus Congress and state legislature candidates. A $15 6 million Corona Norco school bond is also on the ballot.
California New Jersey and Ohio vote tomorrow to name delegates, with Ford leading in pledged Republican delegates but likely losing California while winning Ohio and New Jersey. Carter favored in Ohio, Brown in California, New Jersey leaning uncommitted aiding Humphrey. California Senate race tossup among Hayakawa Finch Bell as Tunney remains best Democratic contender. An earthquake in Mexico City caused minor damage with no casualties. Rohr Industries plans asset transfer to Bank of America for creditors. California Medical Association proposes legislation affecting Brown administration oversight.
Corona city council schedules a 4 pm special closed session Wednesday with City Manager Jim Wheaton at the Civic Center to address conflicts over the engineer contracting process. Councilman Don Rapp requested the meet to improve council manager relations amid criticism of information used in hiring the consultant.
Corona’s unofficial census tabulation sets population at about 32,813, up from 30,413, implying larger state and local funding shares. The census cost was 16,000 and additional questions will refine age income and employment later. Riverside County did not conduct a countywide census.
High school juniors will soon see patriotic art in red white and blue on a large vase at Prado Dam. The design by Ron Kammeyer and Perry Perry features bicentennial themes as local students contribute entries for the project.
