Price War Roils New York Stores Amid 1929 Echoes

In Washington prices were debated as murders unfolded in New York. Macy’s Gimbels and other New York department stores faced a price war driving bargains. Macy’s issued rope barriers in the electrical section and sought replacements from other branches. The Chamber of Commerce urged Congress to lift price and wage controls, sparking a retort from Rep. Paul Brown who urged quitting nongenge.

GAA Girls Fete Senior Members Honored at Banquet

Nineteen fifty one fading seniors were honored at the GAA banquet with awards for softball and volleyball. Francis Martinez and Donna Ragsdale named outstanding softball players. Girls Tennis Team Sees Title Slip in Close League Loss

CHS girls tennis dropped to a co championship with Bonita after a 4 5 defeat to Parente. remaining league match determines title with Bonita and Corona. Pearlie Madron won most singles while doubles teams lost their only blemish. Mary Berley Hillhouse started with a singles loss as the league includes Bonita Chino Citrus Claremont Puente and Corona.

Homemakers Host Bernal Pitts At Luncheon

Mrs. Peterson's fifth period homemakers invited guests Mr. Bernal and Mr. Pitts to a luncheon this week. The group planned the menu and prepared the food. Mr. Bernal presented a box of chocolates to the students at the close. The event was served Russian style.

CHS Ends Year With Beach Parties And Banquets

CHS students celebrate the end of the year with beach parties at Corona del Mar and banquets in various venues. The band and glee club marked their year with a seaside reward dinner while FFA, GAA, and Crown staff held separate year end events at local and Beverly Hills venues.

Adams Mementos In Smithsonian Seeks Adams Room

Smithsonian to house rare Adams family portraits and personal belongings donated by Mary Louise Adams Clement of Warrenton Virginia. The collection includes an unfinished John Adams portrait by Gilbert Stuart and paintings of John Adams and George Washington. Also shown are John Quincy Adams in diplomatic uniform with the Treaty of Ghent, his wife and relatives, plus 100 mementoes in silver, jewelry, and other items.
