Riverside June 6 completion of the Magnolia avenue beautification project along Arlington to Corona announced by County Forester Oscar Ford. About 1600 small magnolia palm pepper eucalyptus and camphor trees planted on both sides with Pacifist Electric Railway maintaining center right of way. County funds 1500 financed the effort. state takes over July 1 for a secondary highway and will assume care beyond that date.
Corona mourns the death of Leander R Nichols at his home on Victoria Street after a short illness. A Rhode Island native, he came to Corona with his wife in 1893 and helped transform land into the Lias Grove estate. Nichols would have turned 76 on August 3. He was a noted athlete and among the first semi professional baseball players with the R.Is club in Providence.
One of the largest junior high classes in Corona will complete studies next week and graduate to the high school. Friday morning, June 12, commencement exercises will be held in the school auditorium with a talent program. Class officers are Stanley Bradley president Milton Hacker vice president and Hulda Lou Massey secretary treasurer. Members include George Bosworth Stanley Bradley Cecil Calico Ray Carter Nick Corselli Edward Damon and many others.
Corona high school selects Miss Winifred Sutter as class valedictorian and Miss Vivian Peeler as class salutatorian for the 1931 graduation. Sutter, a Hemet transfer, active in student body work and music, will study at Riverside junior college. Peeler, Ko-Hi-Nu and Coronal editor, led publications and drama and played sports, earning multiple honors.
Mrs. Charlotte Nixon-Nirdlinger, recently acquitted of murdering her husband Pred Nixon-Nirdlinger, departed Villefrance, France, on June 5, boarding the steamship Roma for the United States.

Riverside physician Dr Will H Holmes and his wife were killed when their car skidded on a slippery highway near Puente and crashed into a tree while passing a hay truck. They were both thrown clear. the car burned but was put out. Dr Holmes, 44, an ENT specialist, died at the scene. An inquest by Los Angeles County authorities was to be held Monday in Baldwin Park.
In Knights Landing California on June 6 Traffic Officer George Spaulding began a one man drive to enforce stop sign rules. The first violator was Margaret Mandeville, judged by Justice of the Peace F C Mandeville who fined her two dollars and fifty cents after she apologized to her father.
About 1300 USC graduates appeared in cap and gown in a Los Angeles Coliseum procession for baccalaureate Sunday May 31 and commence day today Daniel A Newcomb a Corona bachelor of arts was among the graduates led by President R B Von KleinSmid as the faculty climaxed the ceremony.
The Corona high school senior class will graduate next Thursday with hundreds of friends and a letter of congratulations from President Hoover. In a June 1 1981 White House note to Earl Martin Hoover conveyed his best wishes and gratitude for the class announcement.
Miss E M Youngstrom head of Corona High School art department honored senior class with a waffle breakfast at her home 1120 Garretson Avenue. Earlier the class visited the Norconian for a pleasant hour in the plunge. Participants included Alma Conlee Marjorie Carlson Earl Martin Ena Mae Thomas Patricia Creech and Earl Hensen.

Superior Judge G R Freeman ruled that a chattel mortgage on crops may allow the citrus lender to enter the premises and pick fruit after foreclosure, even if the real estate mortgage does not include the crops. The case Dettlebach v Sampliner involved a $15,749.15 note secured by land not covering the harvestable oranges.
In Riverside Superior Court a defense motion picture reel was admitted as evidence in a $10,000 damage suit by Mrs. Elsie Sherwood against an auto accident. The film allegedly shows her performing chores at home in Corona and swimming at Lake Arrowhead, challenging her claimed injuries. The judge overruled objections, allowing the reels from an insurance investigator to be shown.
In a high turnout recall vote, Elsinore voters dismissed councilmen J Ellis Mills and Herman O Langstaff. George Morton Jr and O B Sheane were elected to replace them, with 507 of 668 registered voters participating.
