At the University of California Berkeley a group called Jesus Freaks draws attention among students. They include hippies and straight youths who spread evangelical tracts and debate New Left advocates, claiming a transformative faith and a hip, modern portrayal of Jesus.
The Christian Musicale at Riverside Municipal Auditorium starts at 7 45 p.m. tomorrow. Featured performers include Flo Price soloist Arie Hartman accordionist the Johnny Lytle Family and the Melody Chorus.
Grace Lutheran Church plans a Sunday 10:30 a.m. broadcast titled Tell It Like It Is on KREL to reach those who miss services. Rev. C. T. Voge notes an initial one minute weekly sponsor funded by parishioners for June July and August. The next Sundays feature youth led services with sermonette singing and an instrumental group. Thursday evening services will repeat Sunday sermons to accommodate summer travel. Evening services started at 7:30 p.m.
Junior High MYF officers and committee chairmen have been chosen and will be installed during a church service at the United Methodist Church. The event will recognize student leaders and their roles for the coming term.
Fourteen youngsters were confirmed at the First Congregational Church. They were elected to offices and will take office on a Sunday with Shirley Ebert as president James Dell as vice president Joby Smith secretary Ken Dell treasurer Diane Wilson outreach Cheryl Markle worship Randy Jensen publicity Fred Alvarez recreation Denise Miller refreshments and James Dell program.
Officers chosen by Senior HiPF at the First Congregational Church for the year include Steve Sheppard as president Bonnie Millfell as vice president Julia Gale as secretary and Laura Peterson as treasurer.
Community Unitarians invite Corona Norco residents to gather at 3 p.m. Sunday for conversation and refreshments at Gerald and Mrs Friss home 1493 Sandalwood Place Corona. Phil Smith Riverside Unitarian Church minister will attend with Mrs James Smith and Mrs Fred Sikita membership chairperson assisting.
Dan Stauffacher will serve as Assistant Minister at the First Congregational Church guiding youth groups while the Pastoral Search Committee interviews candidates. A LaVerne College graduate, he will stay until August before entering Bethany Theological Seminary.
Loma Linda University students plan five teams starting this summer to build faith based, action oriented programs in Riverside and San Diego. The Riverside Fellowship will operate a free medical clinic a youth recreation program and a counseling center from a housing development run by the Riverside San Bernardino County Council of Churches. Four members will live in council housing and provide 24 hour crisis services. three female students will live separately but work on site daily. San Diego will open a youth center with coffeehouse style evenings drug information and free meals and lodging for runaways seeking to reunite with parents.
