Riverside county highway death toll rises to forty five

Riverside county toll climbs to 45 with the death of Louise Kramer a 12 year old Los Angeles girl in a fatal car truck crash near the Imperial Riverside county line. The digest also notes cadets missing and later returning to a Banning station.

City Council Approves Sewerage and Fireworks Funding

City council last night approved sewerage plans for Fullerton and Barth streets at about 200 dollars and study on School street at about 865 dollars. Publisher Ernest L. Peterson reported on Corona Housing authority funding, with a 750 dollar loan within a 3000 dollar cap and plans to forward them to San Francisco then Washington for approval. A 150 dollar grant for fireworks and Dunkers club park concessions was also approved, while a two year state highway budget was set at 6300 for maintenance 1400 for signs 1600 for resurfacing as part of the street program.

Grand Jury Recommends County Building Upgrades

The county grand jury submitted a report to the board of supervisors detailing 4 resolutions. They urge a Blythe jail decision, improved courthouse ventilation, and the creation of a sinking fund for possible courthouse expansion. Congressman Edelstein Dies After Rankin Speech in House Lobby

In Washington Rep Michael M Edelstein of New York collapsed in the House lobby and died of a heart attack after replying to Rep John M Rankin who had charged Wall Street bankers and international Jews with steering the nation toward war. Edelstein had sought unanimous consent to respond and deplored Rankins remarks.

Jameson Elected Head of Redlands University Board

G Jameson, president of Exchange Lemon Products Co and a citrus grower, was named chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Redlands in Redlands. He succeeds Dr Mattison B Jones who retires after 32 years as active chair. Jameson has served 10 years on the board and is a Stanford graduate.

School Electors To Vote Friday in Local Board Elections

Three polling places will serve Corona Cajalco Temescal Rincon and Home Gardens voters. Candidates include R M C Fullenwider for high school board and Mrs William A Galbraith and Edgar N Coleman for both boards. Two seats open on the high school board and one on the elementary board. Polls at Lincoln School 6 am to 7 pm. Norco School same hours for Norco and Auburndale districts. Fast Vale polls 1 pm to 5 pm for its residents only.

Answer Call For Mobilization

Approximately 57 Legionnaires and others responded to the statewide disaster mobilization here by 9 p.m. after the first call was made before 8 p.m. They gathered at city hall as the siren sounded twice. In San Francisco more than 400 Legionnaires answered the first call within an hour.
