Checks are issued from Los Angeles and uncashed bonds earn three percent interest.

Coast Guardsmen rescued twenty six passengers from the stranded British steamer Port Aisherst after it struck rocks in Vineyard Harbor and developed a jagged hole below the waterline. A crew of seventy two remained aboard the vessel.
