Postmaster General Frank C. Walker oversees rapid adoption of postal unit numbers for large city branch offices to accelerate sorting and delivery. With many clerks new to war work, mail now moves faster as residents add unit numbers to addresses and inform correspondents.
Racing promoter Slip Madigan seeks army permission to reopen the Albany track after it closed six days after opening. He needs DeWitt approval, liens payoff, and Santa Fe ownership consent, with a projected August 24 meeting and a $200,000 renovation estimate.
