Dr. James S. Melester of the American Medical Association announces a nationwide survey showing no widespread under-nutrition. He says economic hardship prompted a practical shift in diet and survival outlook, with Americans learning valuable lessons from the experience.
Townsend workers press two requests on the council. One allows use of the park for a Fourth of July mass meeting and barbecue if no prior arrangements exist. The second seeks a noncommittal resolution urging open debate in Congress on H R 7154 the McGarity bill.
Riverside County reports indicate Temescal Justice Court led by Justice George F McCauley has a heavy docket. From January 2 to May 31 the court handled 331 cases with civil, civil claims, criminal traffic, and other criminal matters, plus $3 261 in fines and fees. Cases this year show large increases over 1934 and 1935, and since Sept 1 1935 drunken driving cases without injuries become misdemeanors tried locally.
Vierling Kersey state superintendent of public instruction will address Corona residents at the high school auditorium at 8 pm on current education issues. The free program aims to attract locals and pastors are adjusting church schedules to attend.
Bay City police captain Fred Lemmon was sentenced to county jail for contempt of court after repeatedly refusing to discuss his personal finances in San Francisco graft inquiry. The judge ordered continued confinement until Lemmon testifies as required.
Des Moines Iowa Republicans hailed Senator Dickinson as presidential timber after a two to one GOP primary victory Monday. In incomplete returns Dickinson led with 38 000 votes to former Senator Brookhart 54 000.
ALEXANDRIA Va Mayor Emmett C Davidson is indicted by the grand jury for perjury and concealing assets in a bankruptcy filing. He withdrew the petition after arranging to settle debts, but the grand jury ordered his arrest on its original terms.
Thousands await inspection tours at one dollar per person as the Queen Mary docks in New York. A previous evening event drew about 6,000 visitors to the liner who will remain open for tours until it sails back to Southampton.
Los Angeles reports Earl Ovington, famed first air mail pilot, resting after a major operation. He previously made the historic 1911 airmail flight from Nassau Boulevard to Mineola, New York, covering about six miles.
Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 1986 take place at the Corona theatre tomorrow night at 8 with ticketed seating. Patriotic student performances include a salutatory by Patricia Teelen, a violin duet by Lillian Millbank and Roberta Barratt, and a valedictory by Mildred Tucker.
Dr. Fred Wilhelm, a European-born Shanghai attorney, stated in Detroit that Chinese law practice closely mirrors American methods. He noted bar requirements and court procedures are nearly identical and that he uses an interpreter in court.

Interesting program planned for the dinner meeting and fourth quarterly conference of the First Methodist church. Dr Frank Stevens district superintendent will be the principal speaker focusing on events of the recent annual Methodist conference in Columbus.
The Class of 1986 held a late night awards program at the High Ohio Auditorium with about 375 attendees. The event featured school orchestra music, skits, and presentation of numerous scholarships and athletic and service honors to graduating seniors.
Seventy nine high school seniors are listed in the Class of 1986 which will receive diplomas during commencement tomorrow night at the Coron theatre admission by ticket only. The class includes Thelma Aaron Ernestine Amnon Isabelle Atze and many others with names such as Roberta Barratt Mary Louise Champion Dora DeSalva Bett Garvey and Joyce Wishart among the graduates.
On motion by Councilman N Hr Gleason the city council decided last night not to burn weeds off vacant lots as done previously by the fire department without charge to property owners. More than 310 000 in bonds have been sold.
The council revisited the long standing no smoking ban at weekly sessions. Councilman Joe Copley urged allowing smoking arguing it aids focus. Mayor Dan Huckins called it an old Spanish custom and questioned its impact on council dignity.
At a city council meeting the dog question faded as Mayor Huckins blocked dog catcher talks and kept the focus on routine council business. Copley pressed for a dog catcher and for delaying Poundmaster Roy White’s resignation until replacement is named, while smoking rules and a light agenda dominated the rest of the session.
Cleveland reports a GOP treasury balance of about 50000 with the party in the black since December 31, 1934. Henry L. Pletcher told the Republican National Committee there is 100000 in the treasury and noted a ground swell for Landon in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Illinois as delegates debate first ballot strength.
