Corona Retail Sales Soar 36 Percent in Record Year
Taxable retail sales in Corona rose 36 percent in the last calendar year, the state Board of Equalization reports, the sharpest gain in the city's history. Sales climbed from 80.8 million to 100.3 million, with new car dealers leading at 24.65 million. Statewide sales hit a record 83.8 billion as employment rose by about 474 thousand.

Smog and sulfate alerts ease as inversion layer lingers
In Corona-Norco the oxidant level falls to 16 ppm with no smog alert anticipated. Tuesday saw the first area smog alert at 20 ppm with activities restricted 2 pm to 5 pm. Sulfate alerts followed and lines to cut sulfur emissions by 20 percent were issued to five utilities and 14 refineries.

A Security Pacific Bank study shows Riverside County grew population faster than California average, reaching 547000 in 1976. The two-county San Bernardino Riverside area saw wage growth of over 15 percent 1970 to 1976, with agriculture rising 69 percent and farms earning about 493 million in 1976. Tourism, especially Palm Springs, boosted receipts, with 21.5 million from conventions in 1974-75 and continued strength into 1976-77 as cold weather drew visitors east and midwest.
