B John Welch 77 longtime Spanish American War veteran and Norco resident died after a short illness. He urged Memorial Day observances and had worked as Farmers Insurance agent for 20 years. Funeral Tuesday 2 pm Brown Funeral Home with full military honors at Sunnyslope Cemetery.
Lt. Col. Robert Ellis Key of London was named president of The Mother Church The First Church of Christ Scientist Boston at the annual meeting attended by Christian Scientists from around the world.
The American Federation of Labor cites 1943 Soviet records showing Stalin ordered a decree promising German POWs could choose postwar destinations to avoid reprisals. The claim supports argues that the USSR once backed voluntary repatriation in line with international law. The document cited is from the USSR Academy of Sciences Institute of Law.
Funeral services for Fred E. Snedecor of this city were conducted May 23 in Penang Malaya after his death May 21 from a heart attack while aboard the S S President Harrison during a world cruise. Charles P Sams 71 of State Street El Cerrito Village died early today at his residence after eight years in the community. Born February 17 1881 in Benton County Ohio he served in the Spanish American War and moved to California in 1922 from Columbus Ohio. He was a sheet metal worker and member of St Edward Church. Survivors include widow Mrs Mary H Sams daughter Sister Mary Aidan ILH.M. Order Sisters of the Immaculate Heart a brother Mack Sams and a sister Blanche Harding. Service arrangements are pending.
Corona school board schedules two sessions tonight starting at 7 p.m. in the admin building board room and adjourning to the junior high library at 7 30 p.m. to accommodate visitors.
Supt. George W. Kibby and trustees Hoeger Kennedy announced at the annual Parents and FFA banquet that the Future Farmers of America program will gain a new building and a new fence next year. Emma Mossett of Los Angeles suffered minor injuries Friday on Ontario Street east of Hudson when Henry Clay’s car hit Sidney Fitzgerald’s vehicle after a stop for a turning truck. Mossett received first aid at Corona Hospital.
Voters in Corona and statewide will cast ballots for president, U S senator, congressmen, eight county supervisors, a superior judge, and Temescal district court judge. Polls open 7 am to 7 pm with sample ballots mailed. banks and many offices closed. Local focus includes Temescal Judicial District judge and county supervisor races amid two minor car accidents Friday and Saturday causing minor damage.
