Santa Barbara Seeks 1.1 Million in State Wide Relief Drive

The Santa Barbara relief effort asks Californians to raise 1.1 million dollars for hospital reconstruction, resuscitating charities, health and sanitary work, Red Cross relief, and temporary school buildings. The California Development Association will run the statewide appeal with funds sent to the Santa Barbara Relief Fund at 1408 Chapala Street.

Good Trout Fishing Reported From Mono Lake

Motorists seeking good fishing places will meet with success near Mono Lake according to the Touring Department of the National Automobile Club. All lakes in the district offer good fishing with Green Lakes and Virginia lakes being the best. Dozens of limits of trout are brought in daily from all directions. Fly fishing is good almost everywhere. Walker River is improving but still too high for good fly fishing.

Colorado town deluged by flood from cloudburst

Trinidad Colorado was flooded as Picket Wire river rose after a July cloudburst. Hundreds of lowland homes flooded, bridges wrecked, railroad tracks washed out, and property damage mounted. Water receded briefly by 8 30 PM but a second surge from Stonewall Mountain region 40 miles away threatened the city. The Santa Fe bridge at Jansen was washed out and eastbound trains halted at Raton New Mexico while westbound trains were held.

The California Highway Commission advertised bids for two Southern California road projects. A 9.8 mile Coast Highway section in Orange County will be paved with 4.0 miles concrete and 5.8 miles bituminous macadam. A 6.9 mile Holtville to East High Line Canal route in Imperial County will be graded and surfaced with crushed gravel. Bids open in Sacramento August 3.

Three Counties Plan River Watershed Development Meeting
