Corona indoor team crushed Pomona 16 to 1 at Pomona in a game marked by seven home runs in the first two innings. Turk, Corona pitcher, struck out 20 Pomona batters as Corona improves to two wins two losses. Next actions include Riverside on July 17 and Arlington on July 24 at local grounds.
Chicago July 11 Eighty two furniture manufacturers plead guilty to violation of the Sherman anti trust law and were fined amounts totaling 186000 Those pleading were manufacturers of household furniture and case goods Chairs and refrigerators had pleaded guilty earlier The fines today bring the total after the government anti trust probe to 420000
William Tolman appointed manager for a new Thrift store to be opened on Main Street next to Billings Drug. Fred A. Smith has leased the property for five years and plans a California chain with about forty stores in Riverside Corona Ontario Pomona Hemet Elsinore San Jacinto and more. The Corona opening may be delayed to late July with a cash and carry format unlike existing grocers.
The Congregationalists defeated a pick-up semi pro group 27 to 3 on the Recreation grounds. A rough seventh inning and errors fueled the score as standout moments came from Robert Fink two homers and McCurdy's homer in the sixth. Jack Lee, 15 years addicted to dope, will lecture on narcotics at the Majestic theatre Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free. He is endorsed by chambers of commerce and others and shares his recovery story to warn youth about opium smoking and drug smuggling. He aims to mobilize citizens to combat the narcotic menace threatening American morals.
