Mrs Shirley Barger recalls Prince Olaf G II a Norwegian Elkhound with a teddy bear look who grew aloof yet affectionate and protected the home with a fierce watch dog bark. Robert Russell’s daughter Doris owned Happy a white rabbit who grew large weighing 13 pounds and ate every broom on the back porch.
John Newman of Garretson School recalls a five foot bull snake kept as a pet that hibernated for months and once hissed when offered a lizard. Mrs. John Blackburn describes a white duck named Hester Lou that only responded to that name and would not bed down until escorted to its quarters. Airman Bill Wallis on leave from Warner Robins AFB recounts owning a carrier pigeon.
Mandy Rice-Davies, a key figure in the Profumo scandal, told UPI she invited former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and former War Minister John Profumo to her New Year's Eve party and that it is time to let bygones be bygones.
Captain Edward B. Jarman of the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Norco discounts reports that President Johnson's economy drive will impact the lab. He says there will be no cutback in work or in the 1964 65 budget. The lab employs about 1100 people and spends heavily in the Corona Norco Riverside area. McNamara has announced defense cuts aiming to reduce civilian employment and possibly close bases and shipyards.
New Year Eve events fill Mountain View with multiple parties at local venues. Fulton Burley headlines a public floor show at Mountain View Country Club with Frank DiRenzo's trio at 10 30 pm. Other gatherings include the Hickory Barbecue dinner dance for 75 couples and an Elk’s Lodge party with Buddy Williams orchestra. Disneyland hosts a nationwide celebration with Hootenanny and sam Hinton, Barbara Dane and more, climaxing at midnight. Police will enforce at three sites in Corona.
Corona Planning Director Harvey Stottlemyer demonstrates a device from the Engineering Department that measures land area directly from an aerial photograph. Thieves burglarized three Bel-Air district homes including actor Burt Lancaster and movie producer Edward Lew. About $12,000 in cash and valuables were taken, with jewelry and furs valued at tens of thousands missing from Lew's residence. One wallet had $385 missing, and a $200 charm bracelet and a $100 wedding ring were reported stolen.
Forecast calls for bright sunshine and mild temperatures across Southern California during the holidays. Highs near 80 degrees with nights dropping to around 40, Corona reports 77 at noon as yesterday peaked at 73 and fell to 50 last night.

In El Paso Texas the estate of William Barrett Sr. and his wife sues Circle City Camper Sales and Travel Queen Coaches Inc seeking 103,294 in damages. They allege the firms failed to warn that manually operated vents in a new camper must be opened when the gas stove is used and that neglect caused the couple to die from gas depletion. The complaint seeks 81,989 for two causes and 21,395 for two others. Plaintiffs include William Barrett Jr. by guardian Ernest D. Horn and Miriam Ann Horn with Caroline Coaster and Diane M. Barrett represented by Donald E. Stinear and others.
In Southern California crowds ring in the new year with whistles, rock and roll, and Auld Lang Syne. About 10,000 revelers are expected by midnight on Hollywood Boulevard with police patrolling the Argyle to Highland mile and the Hollywood-Vine intersection to keep order.
