Corona's famed melon grower G. L. Hunt, awarded a 1883 silver medal by the State Agricultural Society for eight melons weighing 676 pounds, is urged by Crummerros and a Los Angeles seed house to enter a cash prize contest.
Pres elect Harding will become a Scottish Rite Mason January 6 in Columbus with the Columbus chapter conferring degrees. He will be the sole candidate, starting at noon with the fourth degree and at 7 30 p m with the thirty second degree. Presidents Garfield and McKinley were members of the Columbus lodge.
Mr and Mrs C W Harris and families and Mr and Mrs Walter Harris finished a five day motor trip to Imperial hosted by C W Harris brother. An accident at Capistrano on wet pavement caused the crash. C W Harris suffered minor cuts and wrist bruises while the group was shaken but unhurt. The car’s steering gear was damaged and the trip continued in Walter Harris’s vehicle.

George Nichols owner of a Fifth and Main dry goods store reported his new Studebaker struck a Crescent Co milk truck left on the wrong side of the Auburndale road. Nichols said fog and headlights blocked his view and no one was hurt though Nichols’ car suffered heavy front damage and the milk truck minor damage.
H M May manager of the Ex change By-Products plant left Tuesday for Washington to aid in the drive for higher tariffs on imported citrus fruit and by products. Italian government supports by products and California must advance tariffs to compete. May plans a two week stay to work with citrus representatives for protection under the new administration.
A blaze early today scorched 250 tons of baled barley hay valued around 5000 on William Pipkin and Frank Vejar’s Cook ranch. Firefighters saved a nearby 220 ton barn using a makeshift bucket brigade.
