A burglar entered F W Reynolds home at Tenth and Victoria streets about four this morning. He startled the couple, fled after a match dropped, and nothing appeared stolen. Reynolds fired a shotgun but the intruder disappeared.
In a scene of burglar scare chatter a person or persons helped themselves to wood from Dr. E. H. Smith on North Main street while he was away. Smith has since returned and warned that no more wood will be taken from his pile.
Henry M Waite has been chosen as city manager of Dayton and will take charge on January 1. The position was offered to Colonel Goethfals of the Panama Canal but he refused. Other candidates were considered before Waite was selected to run almost all city affairs.
Section Five of the Congregational Workers Union held a meeting yesterday afternoon at the home of a member to elect officers and discuss upcoming activities.
The George Junior Republic of Chino defeated Corona High School 29 to 11 on an inside night court with poor lighting and closed ends. Corona struggled with the ball and footing, while Chino capitalized on center reach and rebounding as they led 14 to 5 at halftime. a return game is set for Corona next Saturday with locals hoping for better play.
Beginning tonight Corona will be patrolled by five officers to curb recent law breaking. New city marshal J. E. Devine leads the police and may deputize extra help. Other on duty officers include Frank Ewing, Joe Chaney, J. I. Sherman and J. Orasco.
Professor H. Adams of Washington grammar school led a group including J. B. Young and Millard Kirby on a sixty mile tramp to Newport beach and back. They traveled via Oat Flat to Newport slept in a cave, then via Corona to Santa Ana canyon on return arriving before Christmas dinner. The party carried poison oak but remained in high spirits.

The Corona Country club held its annual Christmas tree party with 65 members and guests attending. Santa distributed presents after a school program including poems, recitations, and musical numbers, with dancing and refreshments to follow late into the evening.
Secretary D F Houston of the department of agriculture says the nation cannot rely on foreign markets for meat in the near future. The department aims to foster stock raising and boost wholesale animal food production, citing South American exporters Argentina and Uruguay as current suppliers.
Reported intrusions at the Sanger home on Eighth and Belle and at Joy Jameson on North Jos street occurred early tonight. The same barefoot intruder left behind shoe tracks at both sites, drank milk at the Jameson residence, and prompted residents to lock doors to guard against further incidents.
Rain began at 3 AM and continues, with Orange Heights reporting the heaviest lift. The season total rises to 3.16 inches as farmers welcome the soaking, which soaks in rather than running off. Forecast calls for more rain tonight.
Early last night a fire of unknown origin started on the second car of a three story brick building at Second street and Central avenue in Los Angeles. It housed Loeb and Fleishman Practice company and United Wholesale Grocery company. Total losses run to about $90,000 with United Wholesale Grocery suffering the largest loss.
Frank Raney former Corona city marshal now linked with a Brawley mercantile firm attended his brother’s funeral and spent days observing Corona’s rapid progress during his brief visit.
