Hemet dispatch reports Mrs Mary Cox eighty seven? seventy eight died in Riverside county auto crash marking the year’s forty fifth fatality. The Perris accident began Christmas day when Mrs Ellen Young and Mrs Cox were returning to San Bernardino. Young died earlier and Cox succumbed to shock after hospital transfer.
Ray L Jenkins of Toledo Oregon fed one half of his turnip field with fertilizer worth 5.60 dollars and realized 50 dollars more for the crop than the unfed half. The fed acre produced thirty three tons while the unfed half yielded twenty tons.
Mrs Paup and her son Rollin remain in Hollywood Hospital with serious injuries from a Christmas Day automobile wreck. Marvin Paup, also injured, is at home with his grandmother and shows pneumonia risk. A daughter was taken to a sister’s home, while Dr Paup returns to Corona to resume practice.
Fine program 15 to greet alumni of OKDOL Corona high school ushers in home coming week. Last night alumni clashed with current students in two basketball games. Varsity boys beat alumni 19 to 15 while varsity girls topped alumni 21 to 5. Tonight E R Franklin’s Corona night school community orchestra performs from seven to seven thirty in the auditorium.
Riverside voters must sign county register to vote in the May 3 primary. Registration opens January 2 with holidays noted. Under new law all registrations are cancelled and renewed, with books closing forty days before the May primary and reopening May 4 for the August 30 primary. Voters must cast ballots in August or November or lose registration.
A. M. Hinkley, city clerk, works evenings on a map showing the Colorado river aqueduct route from Parker intake to southern distribution points. The map uses recent Scientific American data and aims to help the many Corona inquiries by placing it in a reference spot in the office.
The Riverside county Boy Scout Council sets its annual meeting at the Aurea Vista hotel in Riverside on Friday night January 15. President Joy G Jameson of Corona and Scout Executive John H Leecing plan for a 6:30 PM dinner and program featuring district reports and 1932 officer installations. About 350 to 400 Scout officials, their wives, and outstanding youths from across the county are expected to attend.
Riverside December 29 cooperation between the state vehicle department and Riverside County assessor targets motorists with no real estate. A duplicate of each white slip sent from Sacramento goes to county assessors daily. John Keith, county assessor, expects about 30 000 duplicates this year and bills are sent where no real estate is held by the car owner.
Three Corona boys from the Junior Lions club enjoyed a friendly gathering in Ontario as the city hosts welcomed the Hawaiian high school football team after its win over Chaffey Junior College. Guest speaker Braven Dyer, Pomona College alumnus and noted sports writer, inspired the visitors with his talk. Corona attendees were John Buzan Pete Hamilton and Onley Hammond.
Mrs. Emma Hummer mother of Mrs. C. C. Johns living at 1008 Main street sustained a deep scalp wound after slipping and falling at her residence last night. She received emergency care at Corona hospital and is resting well at home today.
Riverside county board considers approving part of a $400000 state flood fund for Santa Ana river projects. Redlands engineer George S Hinkley proposes a $10000 storm protection levy near Mentone to shield farms and Mentone from Santa Ana floods. Remaining $21000 cost covered by San Bernardino county. Riverside and Orange unaffected. Report due from the district attorney and county engineer after review.
