Sadness filled the Norco home of Mr and Mrs Frank A Black as their year old son Robert died after a brief illness. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 2 30 pm at Hoover chapel with Rev T A Broad officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyslope Cemetery.
Buster Keaton, noted film star, attended a long preview of Bedroom Parlor and Bath at the Corona theatre with a party of friends and studio personnel. Oliver Hardy joined the audience, while director Sedgwick and cast members drew praise for the production and its flawless sound.
The Corona chamber of commerce forum committee led by Glen Wight meets afternoon at four to plan the annual chamber meeting set for Monday evening January 12. Attending will be President F. W. Kuster and President-elect L. L. Andrews with speaker Charles Bayer of the Los Angeles chamber. The banquet at seven will be served by the Woman's Improvement club. over 150 locals are invited.
Advices from the Queen Colony Fruit Exchange indicate about ten cars of navel oranges from this district will begin moving to eastern and middle western auction markets this week marking the start of the new season. Early returns via leased wire show a stronger novel orange market and the post holiday period will be watched by Indiana growers and shippers.
Remodeling of the Lake Norconian club is complete with new patio shops opened. Management led by Rex B. Clark prepares a grand New Year celebration for the debut of a figure nicknamed 1931. The main dining room will host an augmented orchestra and special favors with a noted club dinner.
Funeral services for Lewis K. Averill were held Saturday at the Free Methodist church with Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. The body was shipped to Barre Vermont for burial with widow and daughter. Averill came to Corona eight years ago from Vermont for his health. His illness lasted only a few weeks and J C Hoover prepared the funeral arrangements.
Charles Roe and his brother George from South Dakota are sightseeing in San Diego. It marks George’s first trip to Southern California and the Minnesota man is enjoying the visit.
Riverside officials emptied about eighteen cases of bootleg liquor into the sewer after deputies broke open liquor in raids. The value of the contraband was estimated around 3000 dollars, including Canadian whiskey bourbon gin and wine.
Corona high school coaches Mahoney and Vaile begin intensive training as the tri county league season starts. Perris high visits Corona tomorrow, then Banning high comes Wednesday to challenge the Corona squads in the city gym. Coaches and faculty plan schedules and preseason arrangements for Riverside county league basketball.
PD Grant Flows elected justice of the peace at the 1930 election is in Riverside conferring with the district attorney and county officers before taking over his duties next Monday. Hows will occupy the Todd building on Main Street with a private office court room and jury room plus a kitchen for hung juries meals. He will share offices with realtor S J Bowen and Dr McNeil of the city police court.
Riverside county California highway patrol members tested headlights on vehicles along Hast Sixth street in Corona on Saturday night. Drivers found with faulty lights were cited to appear in justice court. Officers named include George Baker Charles Handy Ray Dillon Doyle Jessup and James Linthicum.
Corona theatre owner Den Pharper announces a special New Year program for one night only featuring Just Diag- ammes. The event includes the Ivancho Marco road show and a live stage segment with several guest entertainers. Reserved seating covers the entire theatre with doors opening late and music and novelty acts planned to celebrate the arrival of 1925.
Riverside county public school teachers who have not paid their December retirement salary fee by year start will not receive their salary checks from the school boards until the payment is made, stated HM. BK. Smith, county superintendent of schools.
Corona public schools resume after a holiday break with a three day session planned for the balance of the week. New teacher Miss Nevis Es pate Price of Riverside joins to ease crowded first grade classes and evening and adult programs continue, including physical education and orchestra lessons.
John Manning of Chiremont appeared in Corona before Judge C D McNeil on a minor trade charge for allegedly turning his car in the middle of a block. Manning pleaded guilty and demanded a jury trial. postponement was ordered due to the city attorney's absence. If it proceeds, it would be Judge McNeil's first jury trial since taking office.
Hemet boosters celebrate postal receipts with the Hemet post office nearing a new annual record for 1930. Through December 24 the total reached 19 474 24 dollars, topping 1928’s 19 328 60 and 1929’s 19 166 33, with estimates for year end slightly over 19 700. Over five years Hemet’s business rose about 28 percent.
Miss Jessie Twogood superintendent of Corona hospital returned today from a visit with friends and relatives in Riverside.
Judge HL 1K Stahl spent Sunday indoors after injuring his right ankle when struck by a piece of wood while chopping fuel on Saturday. He felt much better this morning and attended court and legal duties.
Raymond Le Roy Haight, a 33 year old Los Angeles attorney and USC trustee, is slated to be appointed state corporation commissioner to succeed Arthur H. Garland. Rolph calls the appointment temporary, with observers expecting a permanent posting. Haight is a former Venice city attorney, Air Service veteran, San Jose native and grand nephew of former Governor Haight. Garland was appointed last August after Fred G. Athearn resigned.
