Family dispute leads police to seize four guns in Corona
A Anaheim man threatened death by his own action after a family quarrel. Police found a 25 caliber automatic in Anaheim and, following a wife’s tip, located more firearms in Corona including a .38 revolver a .32 revolver a .22 pistol and a .22 magnum rifle. Officers impounded the weapons for 60 days and allowed the man to proceed to Las Vegas where he claimed to pursue a saxophone career.

B B Nursery Wins California State Tree Planting Contract
B and B Nursery of Corona won the state contract for a four week project along the River Side Freeway between Corona and Magnolia Avenue Interchange. The low bid was $2,135.10 for planting 260 pepper and eucalyptus trees with replacements for four and a half months. Eight bids were received. Tetley Nursery of Corona bid $3,284 and Valley Landscaping Co of Riverside bid $3,325.

A severe earthquake struck a 60 mile northern Chilean coast damaging the nitrate port of Taital. Early reports listed one death in Takal and two miners missing at Julia near the port. Sixty five people were hospitalized with twelve in critical condition as communications were restored and fears of higher casualties grew. Half the houses in Taital, a town of 3000, were knocked down.
