The First Assembly of God Church, needing more Sunday school space, postpones a new sanctuary. Construction on the new sanctuary is not dated.
Corona building department issues permits for 40 four unit apartment blocks at Lincoln and D Streets south of Riverside Freeway. Project cost estimated at 1.858 million dollars. Dr. Dave Dixon and John P. Strader listed as builders residents. Construction begins today with 160 units expected ready to rent in four to six months. Each two story building houses four units with private patios, carports, and built in appliances. Recreational facilities include pool and game rooms for tenants and guests.
Three gas suppliers Southern California Gas Co Southern Counties Gas Co and Pacific Lighting Gas Supply Co announced a 2 million rate cut for Southern California users driven by lower wholesale costs.
The city formally signs a pact with Corona City Water and Temescal Water Co to buy water rights and properties for 2,330,000, with voters to approve 4.25 million in water revenue bonds. The council sets a February 25 election with 12 consolidated precincts and polls 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. City Attorney Ganahl notes possible future general election hours. The deal includes transfer of well sites and water rights, with cancellation terms if any party breaches. Unresolved Flagler Basin rights are tied to Orange County litigation. The Coldwater Basin supply is cited as best in the system.
Hundreds of Bulgarians hurled stones and coal at the U S Legation building in Sofia breaking windows on three floors. The demonstrators numbered over 500 and overturned four American cars outside the legation. They carried banners calling for death to imperialist traitors as the Bulgarian diplomat in Sofia faced spying charges. The trial continued into its second day.

Billy Rogers, aged 8, was struck by a car at Sixth and Main at 12 39 PM. He was hospitalized at Corona Community Hospital with injuries not considered serious, according to officials, as The Daily Independent went to press.
Former President Harry S. Truman scoffs at Senator Kenneth Keating’s bid to revise the Constitution to create two vice presidents. He calls the idea silly during an early morning walk near his Manhattan hotel where he is staying for a holiday.
Several hundred delegates attend the opening session of the California Federation of Teachers three day convention in San Diego. Paul Schrade of United Auto Workers Region 6 is the top speaker, meeting his daughter and grandchild. Truman comments on Goldwater’s criticism of President Johnson and says Johnson phoned him to arrange a White House meeting, but adds he does not know the purpose.
Princess Lalla Aicha of Morocco presented former First Lady Mrs. John F. Kennedy with a century old mansion in Marrakesh during a two hour Palm Beach meeting. The gift from King Hasan was accepted and a family visit for a possible vacation was indicated for next autumn.
