Louis Mendez a 32 year old newcomer from Compton was arraigned in Temescal justice court on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Officer Robert Bagley filed the complaint. He was taken into custody Saturday night and jailed to await Superior court trial.
L B E Fish of Elsinore asked the board of supervisors on Monday to realign precincts so Elsinore voters join that precinct instead of Wildomar. The request, advancing shorter travel to polls, was referred to Supervisor Ralph W. Stanfield for investigation.
The school board announced two new teachers starting with the upcoming opening week. Mrs Catherine Robinson of Inglewood will teach Seventh grade at the Junior High and Miss Helen Price of Long Beach will teach in the lower grades at Washington school. Miss Margaret Cree, Pasadena, will take over public health work, replacing Miss Edna Coldren who resigned to join Santa Barbara county health office.
Directors of the Corona Business Men's association met in special session to hear a committee report on activities for the coming year. The report was adopted. Ray T. Williams will be secretary and Miss Pearl Lewis will be assistant. The group plans larger Yuletide decorations and a return appearance of Santa Claus to boost shopping season. Present were W. R. Locke, A. L. Blakeley, James Emerson, Fred Snedecor, Dr. W. P. Foercade, and Miss Lewis.
A Riverside county Boy Scout group of about 14 youths and 4 leaders, plus participants from Coachella valley Arlington and Riverside, will depart Camp Evans at 6 30 am to tour Boulder Dam. Dr J W Neblett will lead the educational trip with the Riverside county Scout council.
The community mourns two longtime Corordans Alvin H. Cross and Mrs Ida S. Wood died within hours of each other. Cross 76, ex city councilman and real estate agent, died at Arlington hospital after long illness. Wood 81, a 1893 settler, died at 520 East Eighth Street. Police records show fourteen men picked up on intoxication charges during the holiday in Corona. Twelve remained in jail. two were released. Each offender faced a $20 fine or 10 days in jail by Police Judge C D Mex Neil. Christmas dinner for city inmates included pork chops salad cake and coffee with many enduring hangovers. Three jail inmates received a turkey dinner on Sunday.
