A 100 pound bomb exploded near the Brink Bacher officers quarters in Saigon, killing two Americans and injuring 85 including 59 Americans. Rescue teams faced intense heat in a ground floor garage as fires raged after the blast ahead of Christmas Eve events.

Corona Police Department acted to deter a Christmas trip by the Dewey family in flood ravaged Northern California. A 16 year old boy who fled his home after learning he faced amputation of his left leg or possible death from cancer was found in Flagstaff. He told deputies he planned to go to Chicago but stopped because his mother was worried. His mother Lois Eisenbeiss, 51, said she would travel to Flagstaff to bring him home.
Norco's Christmas decor contest crowned winners last night. D C Messner home at 2862 Valley View won best in home for the theme How Did It Change from This to This. El Norco Trailer Park on Hamner Avenue won best in business with Santa’s wife doing the work while Santa rests, inspired by a poem. Mrs. Jamison credited the concept to the verse about Santa’s wife. Indoor palm trees were awarded by the Norco Women's Club Garden Section, chaired by Mrs. Ivan Read.
Riverside, California resident James Landerman, 24, serving three years in a Soviet prison for vehicular homicide, received early Christmas gifts from U S Consul James Klemstine in Moscow. The consul reported Landerman in good physical condition and morale, while guards prevented discussion of his location or daily routine. Landerman was imprisoned September 27, 1963 after an accident on the Minsk Moscow road that killed a Soviet citizen.
The Daily Independent will be distributed tomorrow morning per the newspaper's holiday policy.
Three Norco residents were injured in a collision at Etiwanda and Limonite. A second crash on Highway 91 near the Green River Golf Course involved Paul M. Stevens and Arlen Hendrix, with Stevens later jailed for drunk driving. Geraldine Wald and Jennie Torres were hospitalized with facial lacerations, a sprained shoulder, and an ankle sprain.
A trace of rain occurred this morning with a forecast for cloudy skies and local fog tonight and tomorrow. Highs reached 65 by noon after yesterday's 60, with a low of 56 overnight.

Two Norco residents, brother and sister, were badly injured in an auto crash near Shreveport Louisiana. Jim Johnson 17 and Kathy Jane Johnson 7 were in a collision with a semi truck on wet pavement. Kathy suffered facial injuries and severe cuts. Jim had back chest, hip and knee injuries. Keith 6 escaped injury. They are at Schumpert Sanitarium Shreveport. The family was moving toward New Orleans where the father works in dairy business.
In Corona a Santa Claus line handled over 500 calls from area children with 119 chats yesterday. A temporary booth at Sixth and Main connected youngsters to Santa for a week while preparations for his world flight continued. Volunteer Santa Claude Schroeder of Norco listened to wishes and urged good behavior until Christmas Day.
