Russell Bartine manager of aeoC Penny Store on East Shh street hosted a post work Christmas社 event for employees and guests. He expressed thanks for cooperative effort over the year and handed out bonus checks ranging from one goat to dirty dears amid a festive reception and refreshments.
A kitchen shower was held in Corona at 1210 Sheridan Street honoring Mrs. Harvey Pruett Jr a recent bride. Prizes for games referencing Christies motifs were awarded to Mrs Olivia Rares and others joined by numerous friends.
The La Sierra Heights home of Mrs. M. W. Tilden hosted the Alvord Woman's Garden Section meeting on Thursday. A Christmas luncheon preceded a business session led by S. K. M. Kenzie. Mrs. Max Graves and Miss Bertha Abraham read poems. Santa Claus led the gift exchange amid community singing.
Miss Kathryn Paden hosted a pre Christmas party Tuesday with Yule decor and favors. Mrs Irene Paden and her daughter Dorothy served hot chocolate and cake. Guests included Lily Mae Hopkins, Marcia Marsden, Betty Ann Burchfield, Elma Louise Kroonen, Eugene Bradley, James Coleman, Howard Turbyfill, John Way, Richard Larsen and Omar Davidson.
A gay Christmas party at the Packing House of American Fruit Growers brought thirty children and twenty mothers. The Serrano orchestra played as gifts were distributed from a large tree, with mothers presented a glass dish. A. C. Barnes and Mrs. Barnes hosted with assistance from Mr. and Mrs. Mannis Dick and Mrs. Sam Larkin.
Margaret Kampling nurse from Mercy hospital San Diego visits Corona with parents Mr and Mrs H Kampling. Several families arrive including Mr and Mrs Jack Cunningham Berkeley and Mr and Mrs Fred Cunningham. Natalia and Joyce Shoftit from Iraan Texas join Floyd Paine home guests. Mrs Sam TerHaar on way to Minot North Dakota stops to visit. Mardsen Brundage and sons from Piedmont spend weekend with Miller family.
Norco residents attend Mt Reud Doux Shrine meeting and visit with relatives in Corona. Local groups like the P T A and Red Cross collect food baskets for the needy. S. L. Crawford, a former Norco resident, dies at 80 in Long Beach.
Children at Harriet Kilby Morning School held a Friday Christmas party and shared handmade gifts with their mothers. Mrs. Verity recited the Christmas story as students, including Rodney Newcomb Barbara Newcomb Judith Steven son Maury Lois Thome Margaret Stanley Joan Tisner Sneral and Sharon Kilby, presented presents and cookies.
John Barrymore castigates the Ladies' Home Journal poll on women workers as he films Midnight at Paramount. Surrounded by Mary Astor Claudette Colbert Elaine Barrie and other women he says men once romantic now lose their roles and face alimony and job loss.
