Ronald Dudley Baker a 16 year old Van Nuys youth fled from home after his mother Lois Eisenbeiss told him a cancerous growth would require an above the knee amputation. Doctors had removed a lump from his left leg six weeks earlier and found a tumor on the bone. specialists warned the boy could die without the operation.

Sylvia Martinez, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Martinez of Merrill Street Corona, was briefly missing in Mexico City after a layover en route from Los Angeles to Honduras. Officials and media searched until she arrived in Honduras and verified she had reached her destination. Her mother attributes the confusion to language barriers and a miscommunication with a Honduras contact. Sylvia is a junior at San Jose State majoring in Italian rather than Spanish.
Dick Gregory and Drew Pearson organized 15000 free turkeys to aid poor Negro families across Mississippi. Gregory planned to fly in to distribute 1000 birds while others were shipped to nine distribution points. A $100000 drive funded the effort with a benefit featuring Grsarye and Sammy Davis Jr.
