Admiral William D. Leahy and his wife sailed today aboard the cruiser Tuscaloosa from Norfolk to Lisbon then by train to Vichy France to assume as ambassador to Marshal Petain's government. The move fits wartime reorganization with Allied leadership.
A downtown Christmas program drew a large juvenile crowd and featured special lighting effects by floodlights. Leonard Schmidt and Chrisler Schmidt provided a 10-foot lighted Christmas tree donated by the Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services for Dr Hara N Currier oldest living alumnus of the University of Southern California were held at 11 am Thursday at the Lerce Bron Funeral Home in Los Les for Dr Currier who died at 3 am in the First Methodist Hospital in Sneath sream uncle 26 W Ree of Mt Homer. A late Saturday fire damaged a Vasquez car owned by Sylvester Vasquez at 423 Sheridan Street. Fire Chief Walter Vance directed the blaze under his supervision and urged motorists to stop following the fire truck to avoid hindering firefighting efforts.
Christmas aid distribution begins this afternoon under Mrs. C W Field Red Cross chair with packages for underprivileged families and children. More than 100 re conditioned toys from the Tiny Tots Toyl are included thanks to Corona children who donated them. Fresh meat to be added to each basket is provided by the Woman's Improvement club. Santa letters are being read from the Sixth and Main box as local children write for gifts.
