Union representatives for International Furniture employees announced a very satisfactory settlement after negotiations. The first year includes a 26 cent hourly raise for hourly workers and a 15 cent across the board rise for piece work, with average hourly gains of 22 to 25 cents for the latter. An extra holiday the Friday after Thanksgiving starts next year. Retroactive to Dec 1, health and welfare benefits rise by $7 per month. Effective Dec 1 1969, a 15 cent across the board salary boost takes effect. Rate progress becomes automatic under the new contract, and grievances are improved. Plant workers approved the agreement by about 9 to 1.
Muriel Ruthrauff of Norco and Karen Bentz of Corona are hired to fill two secretarial vacancies. Ruthrauff will replace Nellie Weaver who resigned after four years. Bentz, from California Rehabilitation Center, starts Jan. 2. Carol Johnson shifts to part time in the building department.

Corona police search for a man who threatened an attendant at Meadowbrook Dairy 1102 South Main around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. The suspect, called “Reverend” in a prior talk, warned the worker of a possible firebombing and shooting in response to a pointed reply.
Aluminum Co of America announces a new Corona plant to produce premium alloy castings. The 240000 square foot, 44 acre site at 1450 Rincon will employ about 350 people when full operations begin in 1979. Initial production to start late next year after redesign and re equipment. Louis A. Wallace died October 24 bequeathing $1 million to create a world university to promote peace. The will directs an international institution of higher learning either in Yalta or Jerusalem, as stated by his attorney.

Major expansion in trans Pacific air service approved yesterday by President Johnson will give Ontario International Airport direct flights to the Pacific and the Orient. TWA Continental Northwest Airlines and Flying Tiger cargo will fly from Ontario to Pacific islands Hawaii and to Orient airports on existing Los Angeles routes. Passenger rights details will be released when arrangements are complete.

In Rio de Janeiro a downtown Santa was detained briefly after a father reported missing photos from a paid Santa experience.
