In Buenos Aires a mass escape attempt by inmates at Villa Devoto Jail unleashed hours of violence. Forty prisoners and guards faced a deadly battle leaving 14 dead and four wounded among officials, with four ringleaders shot after a truce broke down. Additional hostages and outside reinforcements followed as the riot unfolded.
Surgeon General Luther L. Terry’s advisory committee finished a two day meeting with no decision on Sabin oral vaccine. Public Health Service will release recommendations after reviewing the committee’s findings. Reports claim 55 cripplings occurred in a month after receiving one Sabin vaccine, with 24 cleared and 16 potentially linked to the vaccine, 15 under investigation.
