SERA Registrar p E Jones announced CCC will stay at full strength through the quarter ending March 31 1935. New men will enroll in January to replace those leaving. Discharges may occur as early as December 22 to allow holidays at home, optional with the servicemember, with no holiday pay accrual.
Superintendent Liam Hertrich unveils a bold experiment at the Huntington Botanic Garden in San Marino. Two Arizona giant Carnegie gigantica cacti are shielded by glass houses to prevent rot and foster warmth for root growth. The project aims to acclimate the rare plants to Marino’s climate as visitors view them in the open.
Riverside county reports a weekly relief payroll of 48 587 dollars the largest since the program began in July. Wages for works relief projects including highways drainage and construction accounted for most payments while professional and women’s work projects shared in the total. Administration costs were 1 790 dollars for the week. The payroll covered 3 566 recipients with 4 322 assigned to jobs as projects staggered through the week. Seventy four administrative staff and 48 works and 56 PTWW projects were active.
Mr and Mrs George M Blair of this city joined ground breaking ceremonies for the All American canal near Yuma as guests of the Imperial Valley Chamber of Commerce. Governor Merriam attended the Sunday program while visits included a banquet at Planters Hotel in Brawley and a barbecue at Mexicali with Governor Olachen of Lower California. The canal project is estimated to take two to three years. The Corona visitors returned home late this morning.
Floyd Willey, manager of the Union Ol company, and Frank Newsom, a Dunkers retailer, plan a pre Christmas treat for club members. The Dunkers meet Wednesday morning at 9 o clock at the Alpha Beta store for the event.
A group of high school students will gather at Eighth and Ramona streets Friday at 9 o'clock to tour Corona in cars and sing open air caroling with instrumental accompaniment. They invite volunteers and shut ins to join or meet at a stopping point.
About fifty members and guests attended the Riverside County Select Groves annual meeting at the Idylwild cafe Friday. Leo M. Cross reported increased returns on all fruit varieties and expanded acreage for the coming season. Cross was praised for the year’s work as a substantial refund to members was announced. Officers re elected included J L McClellan as president and Leo Mross as secretary and manager with R F Crenshaw, J M Moore, M Miller and H Jones as directors. Representatives from the MLOD and Red Vanda offices attended.
Mrs. G. L. Martin has purchased the grocery department at Leonard and Schmidt's U K Market and is now in charge. She plans to enlarge stock and maintain a wide variety of high quality foodstuffs. Coronans friends wish her success in the new venture.

A Corona resident, Mrs Ed ith I Brown of 222 West Olive Street, is among 554 prize winners in the Camay contest offering first prize of 1000 a year for life or 10000 in a lump sum. The first prize went to Miss Helen Duncan of Chicago Illinois. Mrs Brown won ten dollars for her letter.
A double header basketball program by the Y.M.D. club raises funds for Christmas baskets. Friday at 7 30 p m at the high school gym two games feature local Y MDD volunteers against a team of high school coaches and players. Proceeds aid needy families.

Mrs. Joanna Turner aged over 71 died this morning at the family home 306 West Kendall Street Corona after a long illness. Born March 18 1868 near Waverly Illinois she was survived by husband Peter B. Turner one daughter Gertrude L Anderson four sisters Lettie Turner Mollie Goode Susan Turner Clem Turner and three brothers Will England Jim England George England and several grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are at Hoover Bell mortuary.
In perfect formation 39 Army pursuit planes soared over Corona on the way back to March Field after demonstrating over Southland cities in commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the first heavier-than-air flight.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Gilbert of Norco on Saturday at Riverside Community hospital. Both mother and baby are reported doing splendidly.
Local business leaders await the world famed traveler Santa Claus as he is expected to arrive in Circle City late today. He plans to stay through the week and into next Monday, visiting the business district to see that children are well behaved. Many shops will stay open tonight and run shopper service through Saturday and Monday evenings with closing times left to each merchant.
Corona Bees capture title as Coachella B wins division crown in Hemet tournament. Corona and Coachella shared most all star spots with Noble Hack er and Joy named among Cee division centers and forwards. semifinals saw Elsinore Naval Academy defeat Corona 28 to 17 while Corona beat Hemet 23 to 6 and Coachella beat San Jacinto 16 to 3.
Superior Judge O K Morton altered Temescal Justice court fine for Charles Schrick of this city in gasoline and oil substitution case. Appeals court upheld charges. Morton suspended 10 dollars of a 25 dollar local fine and gave five days to pay the remaining 15 dollars.
Leonard Schmidt Alone predicted both winners Louisiana State 14 13 over Oregon and Hawaii 36 14 over Denver. He tops the season rating as the Christmas game approach looms with only New Year games remaining.
James L. Davig of the Riverside County Chamber of Commerce proposes a county wide program to remove unsightly dumps and plant trees along highways. The plan calls for four main actions including eliminating major dumps, instituting city and rural clean-up days, screening dumps with trees where removal is impractical, and creating clearly marked disposal sites in every community.
At a Friday meeting the Cards Democratic club voted unanimously to withdraw petitions of between 400 and 500 names. Club president Stanley Garvey said petitions would be destroyed if any flaw was found. Other legislation and plans for more petitions were discussed, with another meeting set in two weeks at city hall.
California navels and other fruit rose at eastern and mid western auctions. Prices quoted in Philadelphia and New York show gains for Queen Colony Sunkist Royal and Orchard Beauty varieties with ranges from about 3.80 to 4.90 dollars per box.
