Corona city schools announce a 12 day holiday starting Wednesday December 19. The extra two days were granted to help merchants, with schools resuming Monday January 6, 1947. Administrative offices stay open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. December 19–21.
Riverside Orange and San Bernardino county officials urged the State Water Resources Board in Sacramento to conduct a comprehensive flood control and water conservation survey of the Santa Ana river basin. Supervisor Arthur Weirick spoke for Riverside. the request stems from a November 27 Riverside conference that called for state authority to perform the survey.
Forecasts show foggy nights and mornings along the Pacific coast from San Francisco to San Diego with low clouds. Heavy fog slowed travel and caused minor injuries in several accidents, while a power pole strike dimmed lights at Inglewood and an unconfirmed driver incident near the Los Angeles airport.

Through the week ending December 14 California navel oranges held steady on large fruit but slid on small sizes while Florida prices fell about 11 cents per box. California fetched more than double Florida prices on lighter volume as shippers move roughly 1000 rail cars this week. Florida seeks a December 23 to 30 shipping holiday to clear stocks, aiding potential higher returns post holiday. Lemon markets stay strong with tight supplies and holiday buying rising in auctions.
A church bus driven by Thur man W Gordon struck four year old Jean Munoz as she darted into its path on Sheridan Street. Gordon swerved to avoid her but hit the right front fender. She was treated for bruises at Corona Hospital and released.
A special crafts class will be held tonight at the Junior High School from 7 to 9 p.m. The session will focus on Christmas decorations and favors. A regular class is scheduled for Thursday evening this week.
Mrs. Field, chairman for Corona, announced that 13581.16 had been received in the county wide Christmas Seal sale. She said with 60 percent of receivers yet to hear from, they are past the halfway mark of the goal and reminder cards are being mailed to late contributors. The tuberculus cases found in chest clinics and mobile X-ray surveys underscore the program’s need. 18,000 reminder cards are mailed from the Riverside association office. If posting credits errors occur, notify the association, noting some mail may overlap reminder notices.
Riverside county elementary and high school districts will gain larger state aid for 1947-48 under a Nov. 5 constitutional amendment. The California Taxpayers' Association notes a statewide shift to about 120 per pupil with 90 and 2400 per year guarantees, with final apportionment by the next legislative session.
Walt Shrum, formerly of Corona and now with the Colorado Hillbillies, visits his sisters Ida Mae Gross and Viola Lepault. Six officers formed a human ring around Tobe Bud Haynes to shield him from a mob of about 100 after he shot three policemen a fire chief and a bystander in Murfreesboro Tennessee. Haynes was captured after a long siege in a house and later moved to Nashville for safekeeping as Highway Patrol and military police used tear gas and guns to hold the crowd.
Pasadena advertising salesman and wife sue Joanne Crawford for 200000 dollars alleging the actress retarded the wife’s recovery from a mental ailment by observing electric shock treatments at Pasadena Sanitarium. The suit claims Crawford and Warner Bros executives watched the treatment to obtain material for a film.
In Colorado's Sportsland a truck plunged off a mountainside killing Clifford Guy Cowan, 18, and injuring 16 others while Helen Fouse, 18, a junior and party leader, was brought to Denver in grave condition after the fatal crash near Idaho Springs.
