Washington reports Dr Frances Townsend claiming his $200 a month pension group will dominate politics and launch a full third party in next year’s elections. Townsend says Democrats and Republicans fail, while Townsend supporters pledge to elect many congressmen in western states and file petitions nationwide.
Public Forum at Corona High School study hall 7 30 features four speakers on the Constitution. Topics include Evolution of the Constitution through Supreme Court decisions and amendments by W B Loranger, and Divisions of Powers in the American system by Mrs Hildegarde Sage.
Sixty five members of the Tri County Dental society gathered for a dinner meeting at The Norconian Saturday night. Drs D G Nelson and William B Munn from the city arranged the event. Dr W S Neblett of Riverside spoke on inlay preparation and technique with table clinics by several local dentists, and Dr Stacy Clapp Jr of Pomona discussed immediate restorations in oral surgery.
The Republican National Committee chose Cleveland as the 1936 convention city on the first ballot with 54 votes for Cleveland, 39 for Chicago, and six for Kansas City. The ballot was secret for the first time in years.
Mrs Walter Liggett, widow of the slain editor who headed a militant weekly, said she will carry on a campaign to avenge his death. Liggett, killed by gangsters believed to oppose his editorial exposes of crimeland, was in the editorial chair before his death a week ago.
Hautpmann Attorneys meet in Sumerville New Jersey in a last bid to save Bruno Hauptmann from the electric chair by seeking a new trial based on fresh evidence or mercy from the New Jersey Court of Pardons. A death warrant due to be signed this week sets January execution in the week of January 13.
After sixty hours and four minutes, the Philippine Clipper landed on Manila Bay completing the second scheduled airmail flight from California to the Philippines. The trip matches the inaugur al flight time of the China Clipper. The return trip begins December 20 with expected Alameda landings on December 24.
The youngest and fastest growing town in Riverside county is the community near 28 Riverside Valley Home Gardens two miles east of Corona on the Corona Arlington highway. It is also called Magnolia though no official designation exists. In recent months 14 houses have been built and many more plots bought for homes. A Brown service station is complete and will open soon. Water and electricity exist. plans for gas service are underway. Several new homes have started since November with more to be erected after the new year.
Kendall Aguirre of Riverside was seriously injured Sunday when struck by Alberto Marmaejo's car at Main Street and Magnolia Avenue. Aguirre, in a crosswalk, suffered severe head and body injuries and was taken to Community Hospital. Marmaejo, driver with no license, was booked for reckless driving and released after his father posted $100 bail. the father was cited for permitting an unlicensed minor to drive.
The student body of the high school selects Roberta Barratt as the new song leader, succeeding Harold Johnson in the role. Barratt will lead school musical activities and performances this term.
Construction of a new $50,000 addition to Corona Junior High began after Washington approved the contract for local contractor C. G. Berner. The project, funded from board surplus and WPA labor, will not require a tax increase and will connect to the main building and the Manual Arts wing under supervising architect G. Stanley Wilson.
Frank Pinkerton of Pinkerton Jameson, building firm, leaves soon to begin a PWA school project in Ripley. The Corona firm recently won the contract, and the project will employ mostly local workers.
Colonel Baily of Long Beach, a member of the International Adventurers club, called at The Independent office on his way to the Riverside World Institute. He said he was sorry that Arthur Cane was out of town. Cane, also a club member, is in Palm Springs today.

McCauley presides as D A Earl Redwine and deputies present with defense counsel Grover Johnson and James LeGallesz among others. County Clerk D G Clayton presented to the board to redraw Norco precincts to balance voters. Auburndale gains territory at the expense of Norco Numbers One and Two, with No 1 reduced most. New No 2 is a rectangle between Hamner Arlington and Third Sixth streets. No 1 covers river to Arlington north of Third. Auburndale spans river to Arlington and Third to Corona city limits.
Civilian Conservation Corps members will be allowed a five day leave during either Christmas or New Year holidays. A 50 percent camp strength rule for emergencies requires some youths to receive leave during both holiday periods.
The Riverside County Select Groves annual meeting at Mapes cafe featured a turkey dinner and business session led by president J. L. McClellan. New secretary manager R. E. Bumstead, from Corona, outlined 25 years in citrus and forecast at least 20 percent more fruit for the 1936 season. Bruce McDaniel of Mutual Orange Distributors discussed the AANA order and future prospects. The navel crop is smaller this year, with Tulare shipments at about 5,000 car loads versus 11,000 last year. navels in Southern California are later.
Los Angeles police report actress Phelma Todd died of natural causes possibly heart disease. Her body was found in a car at the rear of her home in Pacific Palisades two days after she was last seen leaving a party at the Trocadero Cafe. Detective Lt Roselli noted bleeding from the mouth but no bruises.
The Supreme Court advanced by a week the expected ruling date on major New Deal legislation including the AAA TVA and Bankhead Cotton Control Act. The court will return from holiday recess on January 6 rather than January 13, signaling an earlier decision.
George Sheeks from Shanghai China joins Corona High School as a new student after two months outside. Eunice Stiles transfers from Bowen High School Chicago and attends a post graduate course while planning to enroll in a secretarial school in Los Angeles.

Twenty cars of navels, Valencia and lemon shipments sold. Navels commanded higher prices amid strong demand, Valencias up on ample stock, lemons up on top grades but weaker on lower quality. Prices listed for navels 3.65 to 3.70, Valencias around 4.35, lemons 60.65 to 68.15, with Corona tions varying by brand and region including Sunkist and Redball listings through New York and Philadelphia reports.
