Six astronauts led by Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford completed a flawless liftoff and traveled 100000 miles through space to rendezvous with the orbiting Gemini 7 capsule in a landmark U S space achievement. The two craft closed nose to nose without contact.
Frank Borman and James Lovell on Gemini 7 rendezvous with Gemini 6 about 185 miles up near the Philippines. The two craft came within 120 feet at 11:27 am Pacific time, 5 hours 50 minutes after launch. Mission Control hailed the calm contact as the crews saluted with flags.
