Eight large military transports sit at Munich airport as Operation Safe Haven accelerates. The airlift began Tuesday and will fly refugees directly to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

Mrs Christine Mayfield dies at home at 1324 West Sixth Street after a long illness. She was 43, wife of William L. Mayfield, born in Manchester Tennessee, lived in Corona since 1941, worked at Saver's Drug Store until early retirement. Funeral 10 a.m. tomorrow at Brown and Grimes chapel with Rev Earl Robertson officiating. Interment Sunnyslope Cemetery.
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Ramon Salgado of the Santa Fe railroad section camp died yesterday afternoon at Corona hospital. Survived by paternal grandfather Gerado Salgado of El Paso and maternal grandparents Manuel and Mrs Chavez of Corona. Graveside services set for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Sunnyslope cemetery conducted by Rt Rev Matthew J Thompson. Friends may call 9 to 9 45 a.m. tomorrow at Bell Thomas Mortuary.
Frank A. Kemp of Denver testified before a Senate committee investigating lobbying on the Sugar Act. Kemp urged that foreigners channel views through the State Department and said he knew of no violations by Cuban interests while noting U S beet growers and processors spent $18 000 on lobbying in 1955 and 1956.
The Riverside Marine recruiting station announces a new enlistment program guaranteeing assignment to aviation school after recruit and four weeks of advanced training. Enlistees will report to aviation technical schools at over 20 centers after 15 days leave, pursuing maintenance, repair, and operation in jet and helicopter engines, avionics, radios, radar, and related fields.

The Air Force will establish a training base at Camp Cooke California to teach airmen to operate ballistic missiles. The inactive base will transfer to Air Force control and be occupied next month. Training with long range missiles is expected to take several years.
Inmates at Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla sent more than 700 Christmas cards to Irene Jaroncyk a 16 year old San Diego girl dying of cancer. The Inmate Council sponsored the project after Miss Jaroncyk appealed for mail before Christmas.
