Gene Boehm from Liberty El Cerrito cites football’s contact and excitement as his favorite. Brigitte Garcia from Cedar Corona High hopes for girls track events and enjoys sprints jumps and related events.
Temperatures fell to freezing last night in Corona with a low of 30 degrees at the Corona Fire Station and 29 degrees at Corona Foothill Lemon Co. No stoves were lit in groves. Temperatures 28 to 35 expected tonight with sunshine and sharp north easterly winds. Noon today 59 degrees. yesterday's high 61.
The City Council weighs two multi million dollar bond options to purchase Corona City Water and Temescal Water companies. A $3.6 million or $4.25 million bond would fund water system upgrades and future needs, with final price depending on whether Metropolitan Water District water or local water rights are used.
The FBI, led by J Edgar Hoover, released serial numbers for $240,000 ransom bills in the Sinatra Jr kidnapping case and urged the public to watch for them. Los Angeles agents declined to confirm a breakthrough while noting ongoing investigation and possible use of motion-picture surveillance.
Vice President Juan Lechin offered to resign and free four American and 17 other hostages held by mine workers and their supporters. San Diego UPI reports Howard C. Swindell a 51 year old Hemet rancher pleaded guilty to burglary charges during an unscheduled court visit. He faced sentencing January 6 on the alleged Honeysuckle Cottage theft at the Rancho Santa Fe Inn last August 5. Authorities note the loot included jewelry valued at about 7 680 dollars from Dorothy Royce of Pasadena on September 11 with other burglary charges pending from July 3 1962.
In Harmony North Carolina local American Legionnaires plan a traditional rabbit hunt on W. B. Norris Olin’s farm. Hounds flush rabbits while hunters use sticks. no guns allowed. The Humane Society opposes the event, which funds the legion charity, arguing the hunt is cruel and illegal.
Perris resident Howard Hartley, age 33, died after being thrown from a horse and hitting a steel post at the Kerr thoroughbred ranch near Perris. The incident occurred yesterday in Riverside County.
L A Ted McNutt says petitions circulated about a week with strong voter backing. Signatures must reach 20 percent of last general election voters to trigger an election on removing each of the five Corona Unified District directors. Petitions are circulated door to door and will be available at several local offices and businesses.
Pupils vote for the happiest student by selling yearbook orders. Seniors Blaine Chanin juniors Chris Coplin and sophomores Jim Pixley lead their classes. On Monday each grade will total orders and use a percentage system to pick the winner. Sales drive the choice.
More than 30 American Red Cross Volunteers from Corona and nearby schools visit Good Samaritan Retirement Home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday to sing carols, decorate the Christmas tree, and distribute gifts to residents. Mrs. Emily Hastings leads the Corona branch. Mrs. Harold lof chairs the project.
