Mayor C R Miller suffered cuts and bruises, shock, and no fractures after a 2:30 p m collision on Mag Holia avenue between Corona and Arlington. He and two women in a preceding car were injured. both vehicles damaged. Miller's car towed from the scene.
An unnamed intruder stopped at a local farm in Kentucky’s Anderson County and killed one young steer from a herd. The thief removed the hindquarters and fled, leaving the remaining cattle unharmed.
Rev. Mr. Herkamp was installed as Grace Lutheran’s new pastor last Sunday and will deliver his first sermon at 11 a.m. on “Our Mutual Obligation.” He comes from Pickneyville Illinois where he served four years and has held pastorates in Illinois and Indiana. He and Mrs. Herkamp have two children, Norma Jean and Allen Arthur, and the family finds Corona an ideal place to live.
Pablo Navarro known as a familiar ragged jacket figure in Coxton. He was carried by ambulance to county hospital after malnutrition but stayed only a few hours before wandering his downtown haunts. Police and local volunteers keep an annual watch and meals ready for him. He claims to be 83 and says he came from Old Mexico to work on a railroad crew before drink led to downfall. Supported by few friends and family in Mexico, his exact age and fate remain uncertain.
Norco Lions met to sponsor a four day drive to decorate Corona Naval Hospital trees. Donations will fund lights and ornaments with gifts to Frank Hazen at the Community Center. Volunteers from local groups will staff collection zones across town to support hospital wards.
Helen R. Miston owner of Helen's Cafe in Arlington Avenue and Tyler Streets Arlington pleaded guilty to violating the Alcoholic Beverages Control Act after admitting she sold three quarts of beer to a 16-year-old boy. Judge W S Caudill imposed a straight $50 fine.

Kenneth N Woodward a New Yorker moved to Corona with his wife last August after retiring from a 44 year career at Metropolitan Life Insurance. He is an expert philatelist who also collects tropical fish and ceramics. He helped organize the Metropolitan Band and led it as drum major before World War I. He notes Corona’s fine school bands and remains a sports fan as a registered YMCA umpire. His father inspired his stamp collecting, earning medals from Europe and the Americas.
The 20-30 and Corona Gridiron clubs honored CHS players with MVP trophies for 1952. Tip Clements and Harold Hickock received varsity honors, Larry Shimps earned Mr Hustle, and Ken Kennington took the B team award. Lions club funding supported the event at the American Legion hall with Coach H L Looney presenting squads.

Over 400 youngsters met Santa at Larry Graebner's Furniture yesterday afternoon. He will return tomorrow 10 am to 1 pm and on Monday and Tuesday from 10 to 11 am and 4 to 5 pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult to avoid confusion. Gifts were given to children and unexpectedly to their mothers as well.

Billy Cook, 24, condemned for six murders and kidnappings, was executed in the San Quentin gas chamber. He entered at 10:03 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 10:13 as lethal fumes filled the chamber. Witnesses noted no struggle and only three distinct sounds of distress. The murders included Atwood, Mnola, Carl Mosser’s family, and Seattle salesman Robert Dewey.
A federal judge in Los Angeles refused to modify the death sentence of Tomoya Kawakita, 31, an American-born Japanese man known as Meatball, convicted of treason against American POWs in Japan during World War II. The motion to modify the sentence was denied.
