President Roosevelt framed world conflict as an informal war with Germany and Italy while the U S remains formally at war only with Japan. He warned of the danger of a Pearl Harbor type strike on both coasts and suggested Hitler might delay full engagement.
Reports say Japanese forces attempted landings on the Malaya coast with air superiority gained in the Kota Bharu zone. The effort targeted Kota Bharu and Kuantan areas as part of a broader plan to cut Burma road, invest Singapore, and threaten Allied positions, with aerial bombing reported near the front.

About 180 stockholders attended the Exchange Lemon Products meeting at the Woman's Improvement Club yesterday. Directors named include R. T. Conyers Chula Vista H P Drake Carpinteria Arthur Durward Claremont and others. New officers for the year are J G Jameson president H A Schuyler first vice president A C Hardison second vice president and Howard W Hall secretary treasurer and manager. Manager Hall presented his annual operations report.
William O. Kershner, city building inspector for four and a half years, is appointed executive director of the Corona Housing Authority effective December 8, replacing W. H. Zimmerman who resigned December 1. A. L. Blakeley becomes chairman, succeeding Lawrence G. Thome, and Dr. James Farrage takes Samuel A. Franke’s spot after Franke moved to San Dimas.
Pacific Coast Conference officials released the 1942 football schedule after brief changes. Southern California gained an extra home game as the Washington State date moved to October 17 at Los Angeles. Oregon and Oregon State moved their clash to November 21, and Montana added Brigham Young as an opponent in Missoula.
Manila reports Japanese landing forces ashore on Luzon and Guam while U S anti aircraft guns shell targets near Nichols Field and Cavite Navy Base. Four raids total 57 planes pass Manila skies as battles unfold around key air and naval installations.
Dr Walter J Wood was elected chairman for the coming year with Dr W B Munn as vice chairman at the noon meeting at Tops cafe. Lieut Ray Williams urged two physicians be enlisted for medical care, but all members decided to enlist. Dr D D Roos announced a civilian defense medical unit is ready and supplies will be purchased locally through the Red Cross.
Local officials confirm Dr James Farrage will replace Samuel A Franke on the Corona Housing Authority after Franks resignation becomes effective at the council’s pleasure. Council moves and seconds to appoint Farrage and accept Franks resignation. Police tree removal requested by G B McClelland near Fuller ton avenue is discussed. Local Civilian Defense committees are reported organized and active for the national emergency. Rev Daniel Hogan thanks the mayor for a proclamation.
