Santa Claus will appear in Corona on Monday December 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. Children may talk with him and place orders for Christmas. A mailbox is placed at Sixth and Main for letters to be delivered in time. Santa will visit Corona on several stops before Christmas.
Ray K. Shook praises the Third Army Corona unit for strong sales of war bonds with high enthusiasm and spirit. He vows the group will match its successful Fifth War Loan performance.
Greek forces pressed the attack on British troops as the six day battle around Athens continued. British 25 pounder artillery bracketed a Greek hospital near the Pathenon area to suppress a Flas mortar position. Sporadic firing and sniping persisted with armored cars deployed to a brewing sector, electricity and curfew restoration hoped for soon.
Mrs. Palmer McGuffie dubbed Opal Moyer of Moyers a top war bond seller in the Sixth War Loan campaign. Moyer, now General Moyer, has sold about $11,000 in bonds, aided by calls to customers before Pearl Harbor day. Posters of soldiers at the Moyer Beauty Nook encouraged purchases to speed the end of the war and bring the boys home.

Mrs E F Knauer acted as Mystery Shopper while Dolly Mayo of Alpha Beta Market played the persistent member of the Third Army who urged the purchase. Major Mayo pressed the sale and the shopper declared she would buy a $5000 war bond as pedestrians on Sixth Street misread the public address. Smelling salts were used to revive General Mayo.
U.S. Army forces smash across the Saar at four locations in and southwest of Sarreguemines, pushing bridgeheads to seven and closing on Saarbrucken. Lt. Col. Collie Small says Maj. Gen. Baade’s 35th Santa Fe division led a crossing, with house to house fighting reported in Sarreguemines.

Corona schools shattered bond sale records on Thursday dubbed Pearl Warrior Day, totaling 26 328 75 dollars in bonds and 948 90 dollars in war stamps for a grand 27 277 25. Superintendent Fr EK Bishop issued the report detailing junior high and senior high offerings by denomination and series.

Novem ber sales totaled over $1400, pushing the month’s grand total beyond $8400. The program included patriotic songs, readings, and a drama class radio style performance. Frank Lametta read Gettysburg Address Up to Date, and a one act comedy The American Boy followed, with cast backstage and sound effects via the Jose Hoeuker system. A reading titled Pearl Harbor Day and bond sales closed the assembly held during EB period.
Lord Halifax says a substantial understanding exists between the United States and Britain on Allied policy in liberated territories after talks with Secretary of State Stettinius. He asserts the Anglo American dispute over reborn European governments is not a misunderstanding.
Allied forces assault northwest Leyte as seven divisions including the 77th, 32nd, First Cavalry, 4th, 96th, 7th and 9th push inland from a beachhead near Ormoc. General Kreuzer says the final offensive aims to erase 40 000 to 50 000 Japanese on Leyte. Artillery drives on Ormoc harbor and nearby ports target supply lines as troops advance from the Lingayen area to Balog.
Pfc. Gene Mannarren, serving overseas, was digging a foxhole when his shovel uncovered a glass jar. Inside lay 35 dollars in bills, a surprising cache found during combat duty in Semmetsburg, Tennessee.
The Pearl Harbor Day drive boosted local war bond sales beyond the $656,250 quota by more than $12,000. Campaign director Coorge I. Stanley reported this morning the total reached $668,358. This is the latest progress update.
The Corona U S Naval Hospital reports total cash sales of 38605574 for its war bond drive from December 1 through Pearl Harbor Diary. Regular payroll deductions also supported the effort while Lt S20 Murphy led the campaign.

Nearly 100 Riverside county law officers and friends attended the December dinner of the Peace Officers association hosted by Corona and Glen Ivy. William Mackey of the county counsel department spoke on the proposed retirement plan for county employees. Music and entertainment came from three patients and a Red Cross worker from the Naval hospital. President Morse, Beaufort city chief of police, presided as the business session accepted an invitation from the India group for the next meeting on February 8.
Police report from Upland and Corona say Horace French and L B Harris were notified early today that a store in Upland owned by the Coronans was damaged by fire believed to start from defective wiring. Coronans left for Upland to assess losses.
