Six young women from Corona High School compete for Miss Corona 1963 as a fashion show and runway event unfolds. The 1962 winner Sandra Welters will crown the new queen with former titleholders and judges in attendance.
Six young candidates for Miss Corona 1963 strutted a rickety runway under the Woman's Improvement Club. Under Miss Sandy Walters guidance the group faced jitters as they prepare for Saturday’s big contest before advancing to Scheheredade in India and the National Orange Show in San Bernardino.
Corona stores plan festive hours through Christmas with thousands of gift items and free wrapping. Downtown merchants, police, and chamber offer meter overparking leniency with a red flag and extra hour through Dec 24. Shoppers enjoy home decor fashions and ample parking in a welcoming holiday atmosphere.
Corona area residents have one last day to receive Sabin oral polio vaccine for Type IE. Three clinics run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Norco Junior High School Lincoln Elementary School and Corona Senior High School. A 25 cent donation is requested but not required.
The California Division of Highways is studying the South Main Street and Grand Boulevard intersection for a potential traffic signal. Corona citizens have urged action. If the study shows public benefit, signals will be installed as a cooperative city state project costing about 3500 to 4000 dollars.
Santa Claus arrives by air at Corona Municipal Airport on Smith Street at 10 a m to morrow morning. He announced his parachute practice in a telegram to the Daily Independent and chooses Corona as the first town in the Southland to try his new wings.
NL All Star Ken Hubbs may play for Colton Mercuries against undefeated Corona Merchants at 1 30 p m in City Park. Hubbs set a fielding record this season and Chicago White Sox catcher Camillo Carrion may join the Colton lineup.
Harvey A. Lynn of Riverside will preside as president of Sunkist Growers for the 13th year. Lynn, a veteran in the California Arizona citrus industry for over 50 years, was reelected Wednesday at the annual meeting of the citrus marketing cooperative in Los Angeles.
