Toscanini to Appear in Los Angeles Benefit Concert

Arturo Toscanini, famed former La Scala director and longtime New York Philharmonic conductor, will headline a Los Angeles benefit concert March 2 to fund a Philharmonic pension. Poundmaster Takes Up Job In City

E. C. Bursley took over the duties as full time poundmaster yesterday morning after his council appointment. He handled many calls citywide while stray dogs were impounded and several sick or potentially rabies exposed dogs were destroyed under health department quarantine rules. Dogs must remain on home premises unless fed on a leash by an adult.

Violent quake may center in Japan homeland

A violent earthquake possibly centered on the Japanese home islands was recorded at the Bromwich Observatory. Seismologists said powerful tremors continued six hours after the initial shock, with the center about 5580 miles away, possibly in Japan, the Kurile islands, or the Aleutians. The first tremor occurred at 5:48 a.m. and further shocks were observed at West Bromwich around noon.

Home Gardens Boosters Club grew to about 50 members after a campaign. Twelve new members were welcomed at Tuesday’s meeting in the Woman's clubhouse.
